You need to remember one thing: If a company does not charge you for the web hosting, they need to use ads to pay for hosting you. Hosting a web site isn't cheap, and you really can't expect them to host you for free!
Some efforts have risen over the years, but none have really held up. You could always use .Mac, if you subscribe.
