Now that the iPod Touch has email capability, I have been trying to set up an account for my work. We have an Exchange server, and a Cisco VPN.
First, I asked that my IT guy enable IMAP services on the Server. He said that he did, but when I enter my information in the settings area, it says that the certificate may be invalid, and then craps out. Which leads me to believe that the IT guy did not correctly set up the Exhange. Can anyone recommend a resource where it details how to do what needs to be done so I can take it to the IT guy?
Second, would setting up the VPN help in this effort? Do I still need to set up an Exchange account if I set up a VPN account under Networks? Either way, can anyone recommend a resource where it details what information I need to put in the settings file for the VPN? for example, what is the difference between L2TP and PPTP? What is RSA SecurID? Is the server entry supposed to be the IP address that we use on the internet to navigate to the VPN login?
As you can see, I am clueless on this, and to a large degree, can not rely on my IT guy to spend the time to set it up. I went to a genius bar at my local Apple store, and they could not assist very much, telling me that it is a problem with the IT department.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

I cannot help with the VPN stuff...I am Very Poor oN that stuff (punish wording intended ;) ).
But, you might see if they have a web interface setup for the Exchange server. I know it can be done...just not sure if 1) it is default part of a typical Exchange setup (i.e. whether you must pay extra for that feature or not) and 2) if the iPod Touch and iPhone's web browser have the proper "services" in order to use it (i.e. I don't know if it might use something like ActiveX or some such, which the Touch might not support).

I got an answer from our VPN installation guys that doesn't seem to make sense. According to him:
The VPN setup uses a Cisco client VPN. Apple does not support this type of vpn on the Ipod touch or iphone.
Does this seem right? Could Cisco not be compatible with Apple?
