bq. itunes keeps putting exclamation points next to my songs.
bq. i've tried everythong in the book, but it keeps happening i think it's everytime i backup my hard drive with superduper itunes cannot find the songs . in fact, i'm pretty darn sure now. it's getting more and more obvious that this is the problem.
bq. does superduper ever "move" the location of files? this is music i added to my library yesterday and i never change the location of files so i cannot see what the problem is.

I've never tried everyTHONG, but it sounds kinky.

What have you set in iTunes/Prefs/Advanced/General? Checking both
boxes under "folder Location" could be useful.

lol, that was really funny but i was too lazy to change it.

i had my itunes songs reading from the 2nd drive, so whenever i made a backup to that drive, itunes would get confused.

now what i really need to know, is, what am i supposed to do about playlists? it seems like whenever i rebuild the library, my playlists get all screwed up, even to the point of losing songs... granted not all my songs are accurately labeled, there have been many rumors going around that it is quite common for playlists to lose metadata... well that's all for me, i hope other people have had better experiences with maintaining their playlists tracks.

Doesn't that backup take over the whole volume?

You might want to partition that external keep the backup and the
iTunes library on separate partitions.

No, I've never lost meta-data or playlists, and I've had my library
on (1) main HD, (2) external FW HD, and now (3) internal second HD.

But I back up our ethernetlet to a dedicated half-terabyte external.

That's a great suggestion but partitions scare the bejesus out of me, requiring you to jump through all sorts of loops to undo them (if you want/need to) I have a useless Windows partition i created on my first drive that I can never undo, because i might risk erasing the entire drive if i try and erase the partition.

You wouldn't RISK wiping a whole drive by erasing a Windows partition.
With Disk Utility you WOULD wipe the whole drive. You set the number
and size of partitions during disk formatting.

Fortunately, the fine folk at Micromat (Makers of TechTool Pro) have
Disk Studio ($99 list, $49 street). That will do the job for you, even
safely releasing a partition made by Disk Utility. Read about it here:
