WISE decision ! I did the same a month ago and will never ever touch anything windowz related.
I won't use windowz on my iMac, and I won't use anything related to Windowz.
Safari is the best browser. Period.
It's light weight, beautifully designed...everything you need, Safari has it all.
Mail - is the email program, also the best. You don't need no Thunderbird, no bloated Firefox, no nothing else.
Do yourself a favor, do not load your new beautiful mac or imac with garbage related to windowz.
For the beginning this is all you need.
But, you got a lot of goodies in your mac. You'll have a brilliant iPhoto - to manage your photos and iTunes for music.
You'll have a TextEdit - a small but powerful word processor.
A "Dictionary" - very rich one.
I downloaded a few simple to use little very helpful toys: xPad - it's for your notes and anything you find online, clips...etc.
"Resize 'Em All" - to resize your photos for whatever use you want. It doesn't overwrite your pictures, brilliant!
Highly recommend "Tagebuch" - also for notes, but different structure.
Plus you have iCal - to manage your reminders, events...etc.
That's all you need. Almost forgot - Skype for mac.
Good Luck!
Buying my first Imac what should I know and what software is good?

I won't agree or disagree with the best browser content. I am not sure that I have a "best browser".
I will note that Safari will display all pages correctly. Some pages are coded in such a way that Safari does not handle them well.
For example, this forum site does not do as well in Safari as in Internet Explorer 7 for Windoze. When typing a post on Safari, you only get the Plain Text option...but with IE, you get the Rich Text option as well. I am pretty sure that Firefox allows for the Rich Text option as well. This was true the last time I used Safari...it has been a little while.
And I have run across similar issues on other sites.

isn't Rich text option a feature for the forum ?
There is right here "Plain text Markup help", so you can use html.
But it's the least of problems, I wish all problems with Safari are like this.
But, really, I haven't noticed any serious problems of displaying incorrectly.
Everything I see is perfect. I'm saying that based on dealing a lot with images, photography, photo sites...etc.
To me everything looks much better than I had on my PC using Firefox, Opera. No comparison.
Out of all browsers in the windouz arena only Opera is the one that stands out.
Never the less, they are all bloated with tons of codes. Cocoa is absolutely beautifully designed language, very elegant.
And you can see it in every single piece of software designed with cocoa.
