Hey Folks,
I want to put my favorite DVD movie in my iPod. I know the
fact that DVD file format is not compatible in an iPod. That’s why I am looking
for a software which converts DVD format to a file format. Does any one know
about this kind of software? If yes, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

If that DVD movie is commercial (and copy protected) Handbrake may not
have the horsepower to rip it. At that point, go to ripdifferent.com, join the
forums, and learn about MacTheRipper. The latest version (giftware) can
handle most anything you throw at it. And you might want to tell MTR to
extract only the Main Feature to eliminate promos and special features
and the like.
But MTR doesn't convert to iPod format. You can use Handbrake on MTR's
output VIDEO_TS folder for that.

I have yet to encounter a DVD that HandBrake could not deal with.
But, I do understand that it cannot handle them all the time and have heard that MacTheRipper is then the next choice.

Just to be clear for those reading along, it's not that HandBrake doesn't have the "horsepower"; it's that some newer movies use additional copy-protection technologies that HandBrake can't overcome. The current (private beta) version of MacTheRipper usually can.

After using a version of Mac The Ripper to get the VIDEO_TS of the movie you can use Handbrake to convert it to an iPod friendly format. Also if you have a downloaded a movie that is not in a iPod friendly format you can use a program such as VisualHub to convert it to a format you can put on your iPod.

Hi
MTR 3.0 ( in beta right now ) is very good, especially the later beta revisions. There are still some titles that it can't successfully do ( mainly Sony :p ) but most it does flawlessly. To get MTR 3.0, you need to donate to the project, which is a kind gesture anyway. If you need it, I can get you a copy of the full donation methods / rules / ... on the project that I received via email.
