I just need to pull a couple of pictures from some video I took in iMovie 8 but the only thing I can find that it will do is automatically place a frame at the beginning. LAME. I Googled this but came up empty and read a few iMovie reviews but nothing about screen captures was ever mentioned. I'm pretty sure I was able to do this with iMovie 6 but I don't want to go back to that if I don't have to.

Could you explain what you are trying to do again? Are you trying to capture frames from a video or record your desktop?

I imagine iMovie 08 has a save single frame command (I have iMovie 06, so I can't check).

I highly recommend sticking with iMovie 06 for anything but the most basic work. Apple just stripped all the powerful features of the previous iMovies for version 08 and remade it as a very basic editor for quickly stringing together clips and adding simple titles. They timed this strip to coincide with a price cut in the (still quite expensive) Final Cut Express. So basically, they want you to buy the 200 dollar Final Cut Express if you want the functionality that was available in previous versions of iMovie. Fortunately, you can still download iMovie 06 if you have either of the last two versions of iLife, although don't expect any more updates.
