I'm in the process of transferring files from XP to Vista, and I only want to transfer certain playlists over. The disc burner is currently not working. Is there anyway to back up a playlist to a folder instead of having to burn it? Finding the individual tracks in Explorer is taking forever. (If there is a way to do this for a Mac I would be interested in that as well, but the primary problem is with the PCs.)
The playlist in question is about 2 GBs.
Thx

This may be just a terminology question, but I really doubt that you have 2GB's of playlists. A playlist is just a "card file" (or a list of alias') of songs in your library. The playlist is just that, a list of songs that points to the songs in the library. Normally all the songs are in the library and the playlist just points to them. In the "help file" in itunes it tells you how to copy your playlists
.......
Saving a copy of your playlists
You can export a playlist and import it on a different computer so that you can have the same playlist in both places. You can also export a playlist to save a copy of it.
Exported playlists contain a list of the items in the playlist; the actual songs or videos aren't included.
Here are ways to archive or use playlists on another computer:
To archive a single playlist or use it in iTunes on another computer, select the playlist (below Playlists), choose File > Export, and then choose XML from the Format pop-up menu.
To save a copy of all your playlists, choose File > Export Library. The exported information is saved in XML format.
To import an iTunes playlist, choose File > Import. The imported playlist includes only songs and videos already in your iTunes library. Unavailable items are removed from the list.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough. The point in question is the files in the playlist. Backing up the playlist file itself is pretty straightforward. I just wish there was an option to save files in a playlist to a folder instead of having to burn an audio or data disc. Remember, the drive on the PC in question is not currently operating. (I plan to nuke it within a week and fix that and a few other issues).
Thx for the Mac how-to. I'll use it personally on my Mac and try it on the PC.
