Seriously, I was trying to find something that turned my headphones into something I could talk on. I had no idea that people would actually slam a reviewer for testing aftermarket products for an OEM piece.
Anyway, I'm late to the party but appreciate the research. Me and my 2 coworkers who hate Apple's earbuds (that hurt like hell, have a microphone and a click-switch) are grateful for the research.

I've been "adapting" adapters for years...
Dremel tools work exceptionally well for trimming excess plastic from around a plug.
X-acto knives come in handy too...
And a good fresh coarse-grit nail file gets the job done.
Manufacturing is complicated. Post-manufacturing makes more sense.
Donkeys buying ineffective items for their aesthetic value garner no sympathy.
Buy high-quality materials, and make them work.
Or pay lots more money for customized crap.
Your choice.
