Hi All
I know there are a number of software solutions to deal with parental control issues but kids are also very savvy nowadays.
I am wanting to know how to prevent the watching of ANY online videos in Adobe Flash or DIVX on a managed account.
My essential idea is to protect the folder the plug-ins for DivX and Adobe Flash install into, so that the plug-ins cannot be installed into these folders without the administrator password. That would means that if I let the kids watch an online video I could allow the install and then delete the files after they had watched the permitted video/s.
The plug-ins for DivX and Adobe Flash install into HD>Library>Internet Plug-Ins and HD>User>Library>Internet Plug-Ins
Any help is very much appriciated.
Thanks
Fred
p.s I should say that DivX already requires an Admin password to install so that is now solved.... Adobe Flash for some reason does not!

I know this does not answer your question but you could manage their user account in system preferences and set it so that the sites that they could download Abobe Flash from are restricted from access.
You can find the parental controls here (assuming you have Leopard)

Hi minischneides
Thanks for the advice. The only problem with that is that some video sites to go to in firefox provide the option to download the plug-in without visiting the site. As well as that peer-to-peer software could always been used.
Ideally all I want to do is lock the specific folder so that no changes can be made to it without the admin password i.e. no installations can take place where that folder is concerned.
Thanks for your help!

I do this from my network. My DLink router allows me to disallow certain domains and URLs (MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, VideoSift, etc...). I'm even able to set which computers these rules are active on by MAC address, so my wife and I aren't restricted.
Its a pretty blunt approach, but it works well. I don't think the Airport Extreme supports this type of feature. I've never tried it on mine. Maybe I should get mine out of bridged mode and check it out.
