After a visit to the beach, where a bunch of people were using the same computer,
my Mother's iMac G4 800 running 10.3.9 has developed a strange problem.
When she tries to save anything from any program, there appears to be an
extra Desktop icon in the sidebar. I can't figure out how to get rid of it, short
of reinstalling the system like some kind of Windows using chump :)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Renick Marsh

-Hi,

First I'd see if there are indeed 2 Desktop folders: On the sidebar click on the user's House icon. Is there more than one Desktop?

Also, while in the Finder-->Preferences-->Sidebar tab-->disable (deselect) Desktop for test purposes. Then see if any show up and reselect the Desktop. Just maybe the hiccup will just go away... B-)

Thanks for the help,...

Tried both suggestions to no avail :(
Now that I think about it, I think this problem
popped up when I transfered all my Mom's
files from her old iMac G3 500 to her new
iMac G4 800.

Thanks again for the help,...

Found the answer on macosxhints.com :)

"To fix the problem, simply delete the preferences file named com.apple.sidebarlists.plist, found in your user's Library/Preferences folder."
