Have an iMac 800MHz OS 10.4.11. Suddenly I find I cannot edit/change folder names. I've tried deleting manually the name, selecting it again and just typing. All to no avail. All keys and functions seem to be working. Any ideas out there. I did try to google this problem with no luck. VERY frustrating.

Could this be a permissions problem? Select one of your folders and do the Apple key-I or in Finder>file>get info. Then, inspect the permissions for that folder as listed in near the bottom of the window. Re-set as necessary.

Consider running Repair Permissions from the Disk Utility window.

Another thing-are you logged in as the administrator? Are these 'your' files?

Bob.

Hey, you're absolutely right. A local guy told me to try the Disk utility solution before I saw your post; I did it, and Glory Be as my aunt would say, it worked!! And there were a mass of permissions changed. Don't know how this came about. But all is well right now.

Thanks agaiin.
