To address Rob's question since no one else has, NO, the Expos?? trick does not work in 10.4. At least not when I tried it under 10.4.11.
I LOVE my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse when it's working. I would dislike it if the scroll ball stopped working, since I use it so much. So far, so good, but I know more than one person whose MM scroll ball has gummed up.

These tricks work with 2-finger scrolling on your trackpad too.

I had the same problem. I took it to an Apple Store, and they cleaned it there. It worked for a few weeks (I cleaned it again at home). I took it back to the store and the Genius went over to the shelf and picked out a new mouse and gave it to me...no charge. No ID required, no nothing!

I have had the problem with an Intel iMac. Took it back to an Apple Store and had it replaced.

On the Apple Forums I described a sticking scroll wheel. I was advised to turn the mouse upside down on a clean sheet of paper, scroll wheel in contact with the paper, and vigorously move the mouse in circles and/or scribbles for as long as you feel inclined (don't be ridiculous though!). Works for me and no need to take anything apart.

I've even come across computers in the Apple Stores with MM scroll balls not working.

I recently switched back to a wired Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer because the scroll ball in my Bluetooth MM stopped scrolling down. The Intellimouse Explorer is the first version of it MS made so it must be a decade old yet works perfect (doesn't look so good since the silver paint has been worn off where my palm sits). Better yet, I love having the two side buttons again so I can set them to simulate Back and Forward in Safari.
If we're going to discuss MM design flaws, why hasn't anyone mentioned the useless pressure sensitive dual side button thing? I'm guessing it's because everyone forgot all about that useless concept. It is/was impossible to use without taking my hand off the mouse.

Very curious. I used a wired/USB MM for some months without any problems at all, and have been using a wireless/bluetooth MM for maybe a year or more now - also without any problems, "stickiness" or otherwise. On the system for 6-10 hours per day, almost every day. And I am NOT a big fan of washing my hands.

Mine is from Malaysia (Model no. A1197) and has worked flawlessly for the past year. My only gripe about the MM is the buttons aren't more customizable. I think more people would have rather had Safari integration rather than dashboard. I used Steermouse to define the center button for Safari back page.

If you turn off zooming the whole screen using System Preferences, then control up-down scrolling will increase or decrease font size in both Word and many browers (def. Camino; maybe Safari and FF too).

AFA cleaning the scroll ball I think the trick is turning the mouse upside down.
Whenever mine stops responding I just flip it over in my hand and move the scroll wheel in all directions for few seconds.

that's just it.
with todays technology, you shouldn't HAVE to do this on a regular basis. rarely if at all.
