Peter: I just checked again on Apple's site and in the previous digital camera update 1.01 lists the 400D (either the Japanese or UK version of the Canon XTi) not the 40D. After 2 checks on the Apple site I can't find any info that RAW support for the 40D has ever been included. I'd love to be wrong, so can you direct me to the actual update that contains it?

Strange that the three Pentaxes have all been out for some time. The *ist cameras were discontinued like two years ago, replaced with the original K100D and K110D. I think the K100D Super has been out at least six months.
That said, I agree that it is a good sign that we are seeing more frequent RAW updates. I am personally inclined to think this is a positive impact of competition with Adobe (i.e., don't want to lose too many photographers to Lightroom), but it could just be that Apple finally gets it.

What photographer, in his right mind, would use iPhoto (any release) to work on RAW files? Aperture and Lightroom are the bare minimum you should work on those files with. You're best off using Photoshop [CS3] to work on them. I've never had an issue working on my RAW files from either my 40D or my newer 1D Mark III in Photoshop. I simply copy them from the media card to the computer, then open within Photoshop... Tweak them as I need/desire, then save them as the file format of my choice...
