There is a MUCH easier way.
1) Mount your TM-Image (Activate TM)
2) Open Terminal and execte:
sudo chflags hidden "/Volumes/TimeMachinedrive_name"
Where TimeMachinedrive_name is the name of the backup image (typically "Backup of My ComputerName")
3) Restart Finder (Option-left click on the Finder Icon in the Dock and then select Restart Finder)
Done!

The other one line command is as easy as this, but the original article also says:
That meas you have to install the DevTools before you have access to this command.
The other command is always installed. So that's easier, in my eyes ;)
