When you get to the point of "selling" your wares, you should check into Tunecore.com. They have a great deal for distributing your tunes to all of the download stores, All of the iTunes (international) Napster, Sony Connect, Rhapsody....
Not just anyone can upload to iTunes as you probably know... Tunecore does this task for a small fee. And you will continue to own the entire project, unlike CDBaby, or other "independent" distributers. As you will find out, they take more then their share of the pie.

Tunecore is the coolest possible route. I have checked EXTENSIVELY, believe me. I was actually checking into developing a "personal iTunes" type deal where you could sell your own material on your own website. But, then you get into bandwidth cost issues with your service provider. so, with tunecore.com they really address the big issues with one fell swoop. Plus you get on iTunes!!! You still have to deal with the Marketing, but you would anyway. Tunecore is definitely the coolest way to start your own personal "record mogul" empire. Clive Davis Watch out!!!! lol.

Great fun! I'll be following your progress with interest.
You are probably already aware of MacMusic.org which is a European site (French I think) that specializes in "Music & Audio on Macintosh". I think that they are a very broad scope resource, providing news and opinion, and reviews of a lot of equipment and software. I am curious about your opinion of the site and its usefulness to you.
For that matter, it isn't only about working with the gear you use but how you learn to use it that is often helpful to others. I read manuals, but I'm glad that (some) software has become more intuitive to use, and the help has become, well, more helpful with Leopard. The web has made it easier to share tips and tricks (I love MacOSXHints!) and I'm looking forward to yours as you go through the process. So please be sure to pass on tips about other sources of information than the manual if you run across something worthy.
Are you going to use MySpace (or other) for getting selected recordings "out there"?

Good Luck Jim!
I'll be paying close attention, so document away!!!
I'm just starting a similar, although less ambitious project with a singer/writer from another state (on a different platform!) so I will be very interested in your progress and tips! It should be very interesting to do everything long distance, but throwing different software and OS's into the mix may make it just ugly...
Can't wait to watch your progress, and buy the product! I just hope you'll remember us all...
