Alex: Vista is obviously not working. Microsoft promised too much, left too much out, and too many people do not see a clear benefit for buying it. Looks to me like you have another Windows ME on your hands.

After more than five years of development, Vista is "a work in progress"? I can hardly wait for the final, death-defying version! Meanwhile, Vista doesn't even compare favorably with Tiger, Apple's last-generation operating system.

Is that a WIP (Work In Progress) or a POS? I used Vista for about five seconds at school and the interface and design is, well, a WIP that should've been round-filed. Like the vast majority of people I went to a pc to use XP and it's by far the better of the two.

Then about a month before I got my MacBook Pro I started using the iMac's with Tiger installed on them.

Suffice it to say I haven't gone back to a PC since.

5+ years to develop, released it a year ago, service pack out and still not right? I call that a LACK of progress, Mr. sweaty pits. I know several professionals (all respected and widely known) in the digital arts field who are all leaving Vista for their old XP boxes. "POS" is the term you're looking for, sweaty pits. Not to sound like a fanboi (I used XP as well as OS X) but Vista doesn't even run well on uber-tricked-out hardware.

Microsoft should just give up already! I'm glad Steve is no longer working with Bill, who gets more credit than he actually deserves! VISTA is not just a work in progress; IT'S A FLOP!!

Someone is going to mention that OS X had some rough edges when it was first introduced, so I'll beat them to it. 'Tis true, but rough edges do not equate to a flop. OS X had a number of advantages over OS 9 right out of the box. The only one of which I know for Vista is security. I know MS believers who installed Vista and within a day, uninstalled it and went back to XP.
Now, OS X is at version 10.5. We'll see what Vista looks like at version 5.0. I don't have high hopes for it, though.

This is what happens when you're a monopoly. There's not much incentive to compete with innovation and a great product when you own the market and your customers have little in the way of alternatives.

I actually bought a new Vista machine last month because I thought my iMac was dead (long story, but it involves Boot Camp), and my job is Windows programming so I figured I'd go back to Windows at home (I only switched to Mac 2 years ago). Well. It's been a little over a month and I have to say Vista is a bit of a disappointment--not the huge flop that everybody says it is (they said the same thing about XP when it came out), BUT at the same time, I have a screaming machine (quad core, 4GB RAM), and with Vista it's no faster than my 2 year old iMac. And there are a LOT of annoyances. Oh well. I'm typing this on my iMac, btw. Switched back today.
