I am trying to set up my sister's computer with a printer--an HP 3740 USB. I tested the printer on my G4 and it worked fine. She is running OS 9.2 due to some older software that she uses. I downloaded the correct OS 9 driver from the HP site and put it on a zip disk as she doesn't have internet access.

It appears to install correctly but then the printer doesn't always show up in the Chooser. When it does and is selected it will not print but says the application needs more memory. It also leaves a part of a blank dialog box on the screen and sometimes freezes the computer. I have to un-install the driver to get the computer back to working. I have tried downloading the driver again on a fresh disk but the same thing happens.

I have checked all over the internet and cannot find this problem. I really need help. Thanks in advance.

Ah, how soon we forget.

When the program says it needs more memory, maybe it does. The "classic" OS's don't
automagically allocate memory. You must do it yourself. Do a "get info" on the closed
app and increase the memory allocated to it.

I tried that. It didn't help. It gives the same message no matter what you try to print or what application you are in.
