This is probably not the answer you want to hear, but hotmail is a really lackluster webmail choice. I would switch to gmail which has free IMAP and POP access, just like a paid account. Really cool, and it works with Apple's mail without a plugin or add-on.

Bill the Taxman:
I'm guessing from that message that you migrated all of your "stuff" from a tiger install using the migration assistant? I got that exact same message when i migrated everything from my iBook to my shiny (gorgeous) new Core2 iMac. iBook running tiger and iMac running leopard. That happened because when the migration assistant copied everything, it copied EVERYTHING, including applications and dock settings and whatnot which means that the system prefs icon in my dock was linking to the old system preferences application which got copied over from PPC tiger to intel leopard. Check your applications folder for the newest copy of the System Prefs app and see if that works and stops giving you that message.

About your issue, I had the same issue, and was told by the techies to use the install disk to boot, then use disk utility to repair disk permissions from first aid. Also try to repair the disk. Another, run (without quotes) in terminal fsck -fy /Volumes/(whatever the name of your boot hard disk)/' That will try to repair the disk.
None of those things worked for me, and I had to zero it and reinstall.
If you need to, backup in single user mode.

I'll find out soon if this fixes my issues with DVD Player:
My Optical drive is currently in an external enclosure, and even though it is the same drive that used to be in the machine, I've never been able to use the Leopard version of DVD Player. VLC works, thank goodness, and I think I like it better now thanks to its expanded capabilities, but I've always wondered what the new Leopard version of Apple's DVD Player would be like.

At first I thought the 10.5.3 update messed up my Spaces, as I couldn't switch between them any more. Luckily, it turned out it simply disabled the keyboard short cut in the preferences. Beats me why.
I noticed the same thing with some of my prefs. I wondered why my keyboard backlight kept going on and off and the display kept dimming. Turns out the update turned on the preference to adjust the display lighting based on ambient light changes (I've always left that preference turned off.)

Why in the world is no one discussing that Apple took away Time Machine wireless backups via a USB hard drive connected to Airport Extreme???
For the thousands of us who don't want Time Capsule, this upgrade royally screwed us!
Anyone else???

I'm desperate for advice! I lost 4 months of backups!

Seriously?
There are a TON of HELP ME messages on Apple's support forums so I know I'm not the only one... I have a WD Book External HD connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station.
Since the upgrade, Time Machine will not mount the disk EVEN THOUGH it shows up in Time Machine's choices!
I've tried fixing permissions, deleting the 4 month old backup sparse file and nothing will work. It simply will not mount.
Can anyone help me???

One new feature not mentioned here is that Address Book is now supposed to be able to sync with Google contacts. Some people have reported that this option does not show up in the Address Book preferences. I am one of those people. (Other people type obscene message back saying we must be stupid because it appears on their system.) Strangely, the Address Book help says I should be able to do it, but the preference option just isn't there.
What makes me suspicious about all this is that my updater (downloaded through the Software Updater) was only 198 MB. That is true for both my MBP and iMac G5 (completely different architectures!). The download available on Apple's web site is over twice that size. Clearly I'm missing something.
