PLEASE help me! I wrote what I (and countless others according to the Apple Support forms) are experiencing (http://www.jeffmccord.org/?p=205)
Time Machine shows my external HD as an available source... I pick it, no issue. Hit backup now and it ALWAYS says "The backup volume could not be mounted."
I've tried deleting the sparse file and starting all over. Nothing works. Time machine will work if I plug in my WD Book via firewire and it backs up just great...but I want it to work wirelessly like it's been working for MONTHS!
Any help?
Sorting through the Mac OS X 10.5.3 update

I'll see if I can figure anything out, but right after I installed 10.5.3 on both of my computers they just automatically started backing up. It took a long time while they were preparing, but I haven't had any problems.
In the past, when I did have some issues with Time Machine loading up the disk (and I had a few times), if restarting my computer and my hard drive didn't work, I had a very hard time getting the disk to mount if it stopped being recognized regardless what I tried. I usually just resorted to starting over with my backups by wiping the hard drive clean and setting it all up again. I guess that could be a last resort if others can't figure it out.

I read this on the Apple forums and some people have said it was successful:
"I have two MacBooks backing up with TM to two Airport drives (Western Digital Passports) over the Airport wireless network.
I encountered the same issue and after trying some suggestions on this forum (to no avail), I simply went to the TM Preferences, selected Change Disk..., selected the disk (it was already selected) and hit OK. It started working again! And all of my previous backups were retained."

I haven't upgraded my graphics. I have a iMac 17".
Leopard booted once before it failed, and the problem had to do with disk permissions as running that from the install disk failed. System Prefs crashed when authenticating a prefpane, but didn't when I installed it again on the reinstalled leopard. I didn't want to buy diskwarrior, so I zeroed it.

The new Spaces behavior in 10.5.3 is very annoying. Spaces is the best new feature in Leopard and I use it all the time. However, as I mostly use applications where you input text (Safari, Word, SOHO Notes, Mail, Skype etc.), and I am working with text in several spaces simultaneously, I need the text cursor to stay in each space where I left it, just as it did in 10.5.2. Now in 10.5.3, as soon as you leave a space (ctrl+Arrows), and pass an empty space or a space with a finder window, the Finder grabs the focus.
Spaces was perfect as it was i 10.5.2. Now, at least for me, it's practically useless. As the Finder grabs the focus most of the time when I leave a space, now I have to click with the mouse every time I return to a space to continue writing. I could use CmdTab to get the focus of the application I want, but if I wanted to use CmdTab, I wouldn't be using Spaces in the first place!
As the new Spaces behavior will affects many people's workflows and productivity in a negative way, I find it incomprehensible that Apple changed it just like that, without giving the users an option to choose between the new and old behavior. I hope Apple will add a checkbox in the Spaces preferences where we can turn this new feature on or off.

Huh? That's irrelevant to my comment. The missing "feature" is missing on both my iMac G5 and my MBP (intel).
After digging around some more (although not mentioned here) the ability for Address Book to sync with Google contacts is apparently only available if you own an iPhone or iPod touch (and sync it to your machine). There are hacks, but they don't seem to persist.
It's silly that users need to own an iPhone to sync Address Book contacts to Google. But after reading users' experiences, I'm glad I can't. All the addresses that Gmail collects on your behalf (whether you want it to or not) sync back to your Mac and clutter your contact list. Yuck.
