I think that is if they do what most other mobile phone carriers do, which is give you a huge discount on the phone when you sign up for a 2-year contract... something that didnt happen the first time around with the iPhone

Interesting though -- we went to the AT&T store to look at phones and I mentioned the new iPhone, and the dude helping us hadn't heard anything about it! This was just a couple of weeks ago. Weird...

The time before last when I got a new phone (my phone before my iPhone), I got the discount for renewing my existing AT&T (which was Cingular then) contract. So those of us on AT&T may not be out of luck on an iPhone 2.0 discount.

Apple Retail Store policy is that if an Apple product is not for sale on the Apple web site at that moment then it is not to be discussed at all. I'm sure since AT&T is a major partner of Apple's they follow a similar rule.

Yeah the Gore thing has never come up before as far as I know and apparently he has been on the board for a while...?

Also yes 2-year renewal will prob fall under 2-year new contract discount, as it does with every other phone... bad thing is that you cannot reup your contract. Meaning if your a year in, you just cannot add 2 years ontop of that to get the discount.

I just thought it was funny that I knew more about it from the Apple rumor mill than the AT&T dude did. Makes sense though -- I've given up getting any info out of anyone at the Apple Stores, not even my favorite guy who's sold me all my computers; with all the money I've spent there, he knows me on sight. (LOL)
