It says right in the article: "Current .Mac users will become MobileMe members automatically, and can continue to use their mac.com e-mail addresses."
Before going on a tirade, it might be helpful next time to actually read the story you're commenting on.

Both Apple and Microsoft are guilty of trying to hijack user data and make it proprietary. My music files (wma and aac), my word docs (.docx), my contacts (Entourage does not import windows outlook pst files). Quit messing with my data!!! It's MINE, not yours!

Yes, you could have. Too bad you didn't bother.
My comment, for example, was posted at 12:37. If you actually read the article, you would have noticed that it was "Updated at 12:41PM PDT to add details about how the Web applications work and how MobileMe applies to .Mac customers, and a quote from Steve Jobs."
In other words, the information you claim I should have seen in the article wasn't there when I replied.

Hard to imagine they would overlook this absolutely necessary aspect of a Enterprise device.
That will keep me from dumping my Blackberry for one..
REALLY STUPID OMISSION, I phone development team...

Also, I wonder how much Apple had to pay to get www.me.com domain......

I'll enjoy the ability to sync contacts with my Windows machines, and look forward to seeing the details of how that works. I AM irritated that Macs are apparently limited to 10.4.11 or higher, which leaves out three of the five Macs I use everyday.

What is wrong with you, Apple?!? You encourage people to use To Dos by putting the feature into iCal and then into Mail....but then you refuse to support the same feature in the iPhone, where it could really be useful!
There's just no good reason to omit ToDos after the iPhone has been on the market for a year. Really, this really dulls my excitement over an otherwise great looking next-gen iPhone.
Even worse, Apple licenses Microsoft's ActiveSync but still gives no indication of whether iPhone 2.0 will be able to access Exchange notes and tasks.

I'm not thrilled with the name but I really am looking forward to putting it to work. I've always hated having to dock my iPhone just to get my calendar and contact information synched. I'm not sure if anyone remembers, maybe Jason Snell, Chris Breen, Dan Frakes or Rob Griffiths do, but when the iPhone was first announced push email was touted as a feature, though only if you were using a yahoo.com address. It was absurd that they didn't offer that to their own .mac users. Now it's here. I'm also impressed with the redesigned web apps. I use webmail often and this new version of webmail, contacts and calendar really do look great. I just hope it's faster than .mac is now. I'm wary of using iDisk though. I've never had really good luck with it. It's always been painfully slow. 20GB of storage though is nice.
