Forget about having to read anything on the Apple site, all you guys had to do before complaining and worrying about whether or not you could continue using your mac.com email addresses was read this darn story your commenting on in the first place!
It says right in the article: "Current .Mac users will become MobileMe members automatically, and can continue to use their mac.com e-mail addresses."
Before going on a tirade, it might be helpful next time to actually read the story you're commenting on.

Hear, hear!!! So much for the (apparently erroneous) conceit that Mac users are generally "brainier" than their PC counterparts. Clearly, we are not terribly literate. Read before opening mouth . . .

The design is beautiful and the features seem well integrated and thought-through. Most of it's functionality can be had today free of charge or at least much cheaper. See here for my detailed comments: http://drjunker.org/...in-perspective/

Whether it be Apple or Microsoft, I want a non-proprietary solution when hosting my data. I've been burned too many times. I want my data, meaning office documents, emails, contacts and notes, in a format that is non-proprietary. i want interoperability. I don't want to have MY data held hostage by somebody else's format again. Enough is enough. It's MY data. Not Apple's data. Not Mcirosoft's data. So the .mac or .minime is just not a solution - especially at $100 a year. I can buy a domain name and have it hosted for that, and then i don't need to worry about somebody changing service on me, or forcing name changes later on down the line.

Both Apple and Microsoft are guilty of trying to hijack user data and make it proprietary. My music files (wma and aac), my word docs (.docx), my contacts (Entourage does not import windows outlook pst files). Quit messing with my data!!! It's MINE, not yours!

Yes, you could have. Too bad you didn't bother.

My comment, for example, was posted at 12:37. If you actually read the article, you would have noticed that it was "Updated at 12:41PM PDT to add details about how the Web applications work and how MobileMe applies to .Mac customers, and a quote from Steve Jobs."

In other words, the information you claim I should have seen in the article wasn't there when I replied.

its pretty clear that voice dialing will NOT be native to this update...
Hard to imagine they would overlook this absolutely necessary aspect of a Enterprise device.

That will keep me from dumping my Blackberry for one..

REALLY STUPID OMISSION, I phone development team...

Does anyone else not really want a @me.com email address? Wonder if the option to have @mac.com will be available to brand new users? I also agree that the crown jewel to this service would be web based iWork. I'm going to give the trial period a try. I'm in love with Gmail, so-so on G-Cal....so if it doesn't wow me with its sync-ability, I won't buy. Syncing G-Cal through iCal and then to iPhone is only moderately annoying...not enough to pay $99 to have a better sync....
Also, I wonder how much Apple had to pay to get www.me.com domain......

I've been on .mac since the beginning. If they were forcing us to use .me, I'd drop the service; and I certainly have no intention of using the "new" email address. Call me petty, but I think it sounds stupid; reminiscent of the undignified online handles young people (and a few older ones who should know better) pick.

I'll enjoy the ability to sync contacts with my Windows machines, and look forward to seeing the details of how that works. I AM irritated that Macs are apparently limited to 10.4.11 or higher, which leaves out three of the five Macs I use everyday.

Well this may have been premature, but the CSR's could not tell me if NEW users would get a choice between @me.com or @mac.com. So I found that the .Mac trial is still up and signed up for it to claim my @mac.com address. If you are like minded to me, you might want to give this a shot. www.apple.com/dotmac.

Worst. Name. Ever.

Would you prefer that they call it .Mac Extreme?

Still no bloody To Do support!

What is wrong with you, Apple?!? You encourage people to use To Dos by putting the feature into iCal and then into Mail....but then you refuse to support the same feature in the iPhone, where it could really be useful!

There's just no good reason to omit ToDos after the iPhone has been on the market for a year. Really, this really dulls my excitement over an otherwise great looking next-gen iPhone.

Even worse, Apple licenses Microsoft's ActiveSync but still gives no indication of whether iPhone 2.0 will be able to access Exchange notes and tasks.

This is one of the stupedest branding ideas i've ever heard. ".Mac" vs. "MobileMe" - give me a freaking break. This is worse than Windows branding everything My Docs, My Music - who the heck elses would it be? Even in vista they learned and dropped the pretentious branding. I've come to expect better from Apple - add new services and leave the name alone. Please fire whoever came up with this idea before they have the chance to spread their vile cancer and ruin anything else at Apple.

Good Lord, what a bunch of little girls with skinned knees. If you don't like the features offered by MobileMe, or don't like its name, then your choice really is very simple. Don't use it. Use one of the those other free alternatives if the price is too high for you.

I'm not thrilled with the name but I really am looking forward to putting it to work. I've always hated having to dock my iPhone just to get my calendar and contact information synched. I'm not sure if anyone remembers, maybe Jason Snell, Chris Breen, Dan Frakes or Rob Griffiths do, but when the iPhone was first announced push email was touted as a feature, though only if you were using a yahoo.com address. It was absurd that they didn't offer that to their own .mac users. Now it's here. I'm also impressed with the redesigned web apps. I use webmail often and this new version of webmail, contacts and calendar really do look great. I just hope it's faster than .mac is now. I'm wary of using iDisk though. I've never had really good luck with it. It's always been painfully slow. 20GB of storage though is nice.

Does anybody know if the "Groups" application will still be available for MobileMe? Last I searched Apple's website I didn't see anything about it. I know they are dropping some of the applications that .Mac had. Any input on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
