Where did you see that AT&T service plans are higher?

I'm not sure this is accurate, however.

They lowered the price but the service plans are $10/month higher. Over your 2 year contract you pay $240 more to AT&T. However, many people will see $199 and say it's much cheaper not realizing that the total cost is actually $40 more.
Also, I'm betting that you'll be required to sign up for a contract before they even ship you the phone. Otherwise, the unlockers are going to get a deal.

Per AT&T Conference Call this afternoon: iPhone 3G will be activated in Apple or AT&T stores... and you've got to activate and sign a contract for the cheap price.

My registration date has nothing to do with the fact that your original post, followed by the "ha ha GOTCHA" response, fits the textbook definition of trolling like a glove.
I guess you're just dense then: the post was--ready?--in jest. If you've been following Mac and Apple news for some time you'd know that 1) "beleaguered" used to be the favourite adjective of anybody writing anything against Apple (and often even pro-Apple articles) and 2) Michael Dell once stated that Jobs should liquidate the company [Apple] and return the money to the shareholders.
The "gotcha" was to illustrate 1) that your sarcas-o-metre seem to be stuck at "everything's serious" and 2) whenever someone here makes a joke without describing it in excruciating detail (as I just did--thanks for proving me right) at least one person (usually new to the forum ) pops up and posts thinking it was serious. (And there was no "ha ha.")

Per AT&T at: http://is.gd/tLr
AT&T and Apple no longer have revenue-sharing model. Instead AT&T is subsidizing the price of the iPhone.

Does this new iphone have the capability to view the other person while your talking to them? They have this technology in Japan.
Does the iphone have it now too? Does any phone have this feature? Is japan still way ahead of us in cell phone technology?
If I can't find this feature on the new iphone, then the phone sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the story:
"Apple plans to introduce a new version of the iPhone in July that comes equipped with support for faster 3G networks."
Faster 3G networks? As in networks that are faster than 3G? But isn't a 3G network, by definition, as fast as a 3G network?

"Given that there's a
32GB iPod Touch (I should know, I own one), and given that the 8 and
16GB iPhones are now less pricey, having a high-capacity iPhone seems
like such a no-brainer, I dunno why they don't."
The iPod Touch does not have the cell radio and antenna like the new iPhone. Perhaps when all was said and done the layout of the new iPhone with all of it's components physically only had room for 16 Gb of Flash memory. We will have to wait until someone takes the new iPhone apart to verify how tight the layout is and whether additional flash memory could fit in the devices form factor.

Hmmm. Watched the Macworld coverage of the Keynote (good work, folks) ... got enthused. Nice software implementation and lovely ideas. More enthused. Price drop? Great! That will make it about ... hmmm ... 200 euro, considering Apple conversion rates seem to have $1 = €1. Ok, I can live with that.
But -- hold the phone -- the probability is that the rates charged by the telcos will go up! I currently spend about 10 euro per month in pay-as-you-go fees on my Treo.
Problem solved. I'm no longer within the demographic, I'll be damned before I pay a multiple of what I pay now for a telephone service that I don't require, so I'll stick with my Treo, thanks. Perhaps I'll get an iPod touch too ...
