Hey, this reminds me, a couple years ago Apple asked for submissions from users for ideas for what kind of program they would like to see on the mac. The winner would have an Apple programmer design it and have it included in the operating system. I think it was for 10.4, but it could have been for 10.5. Ideas were for a real time life like desktop showing the present weather conditions, and another was for a recipe program. Did I just miss this or did I remember it all to well in a parallel universe?

That was mydreamapp.com, and it wasn't Apple who did it. The apps never seemed to make it into existence, sadly.

FotoMagico looked like it wa going to solve my custom slideshow issues I have with Keynote, but they seem to be lacking in features and export ability. Yikes, that price is steep, and don't even look at their Blu-Ray burning "service."
Hopefully sometime soon Apple will enable transition and build stacking that was in previous version of Keynote, but seems to have disappeared in the current one. Then we'd have animation ability and integrated effects for custom, precisely controlled slide shows.

Squirrel is a sad excuse for a Mac App. Apple must be desperate to give this app an award. Each account has no balance and there is no place to enter a check number. What sad piece of work.

I entered that contest. And really, its sad that they did not deliver. If you are going to present such a contest, you better be willing to put the time into making it happen.

Personally, I think it would be a PR boon if Apple would sponsor a contest like this. They could come up with a killer app and get a lot of users excited and putting their ideas down on paper.

Just a note for editor about currency marks. Unlike USD $xxx, Euro is placed after the amount; xxx €

That's not true -- there are no standards for where the Euro sign must be placed, at least according to Wikipeida and other sources I googled:

"Placement of the sign also varies. Partly since there are no official standards on placement,[5] countries have generated varying conventions or sustained those of their former currencies. For example, in Ireland and the Netherlands where former currency signs (# and ?, respectively) were placed before the figure, the euro sign is universally placed in the same position[6]. In many other countries, including France and Germany, an amount such as ?3.50 is often written as 3,50? or 3?50 instead, largely following conventions for their former currencies."

In the United States, where we're based, we place the currency symbol before the currency amount.

You can put the cheque number in the description. And the first screenshot on their web site shows current and future account balances right there.
