A farewell to iCards

Thing is, I've loved iCards... good, clean, simple, beautiful and powerful images that work well for their specified intentions. My girlfriend ad I have used iCards back and forth for years. There's no noisy animations, no weak humour, no tacky undeveloped feel... just the right gravity for any situation. Add to that, that, unlike so may other online greeting card companies, Apple was reliable in it's offerings, not fly by night at all. I will miss the iCards feature of .Mac. Good bye useful, and relationship friendly tool.

I didn't use iCards that often, but I'd rather stick with .mac considering they are KILLING BOOKMARKS ONLINE. This is a much bigger deal than iCards and is going to be a MAJOR factor in deciding if I renew my subscription or not! If they aren't added back by fall, I will most likely dump MobileMe.

Like you mention DacianFaix, I too like the cleanness of the iCards. I've stopped going to Hallmark for the same reason, they cut their entire blank card selection which was 95% of my card buying. I hate the cheesy cards and would rather make my own message. No matter what you write, the recipient normally like it more because it all came from you! I guess most ppl are too lazy to jot down a small personal message.

Looks we now have a very close replacement for iCards.
Yeah!
http://popcard.me/
It's free, and while it does not yet have a huge library of images, they are classy and don't have spam.
Enjoy...

@ queen123 Don't you know it is against the law for an American citizen to do business with an IRANIAN entity like 4iCards.com??

As far as I know, sanctions are still in effect, and I don't plan on inviting trouble by breaking the law of the land I live in.
4iCARDS COLLECTS ALL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!! BEWARE!!
That's not "descent" at all.
That said, the quality of the 4iCards product leaves much to be desired when compared to Apple iCards. Since I've already expressed my opinions about their cards and the email format, I'm not going to reinvent the wheel. Here are the links where I've discussed the poor quality issues with this site's cards:

Although I'm still ticked off at Apple's discontinuation of iCards, I have been happily using Steve Dekorte's PostCard application.
http://www.dekorte.c...eware/Postcard/
Sending my own home made cards using Apple Mail means no one is collecting my personal information or that of my friends and loved ones.
In addition, PostCard enables you to use TextEdit capabilities in the message area, including the ability to insert images (think smileys) within the message area and to drop shadow your text. The added flexibility and creativity is refreshing. I've combed the Internet for old Apple iCard images, and have posted several hundred to my iDisk for download and recycling for PERSONAL use with apps like PostCard.

In fact, I have posted a review of PostCard on my Flickr account,

Make your own iCards with PostCard
http://www.flickr.co...57606929661050/
and in the comments, I review several other software solutions, including free Keynote templates which duplicate exactly what an iCard looks like, down to the Hello from Cupertino postmark.
For those who are shackled to Windows/Linux PCs, including Mac enthusiasts who have no choice at work, the only online alternative I recommend, is the site Fotek suggested, PopCard.me:
http://popcard.me
The site is run by Jamie Longstaff, author of the pro photography photo gallery software, Pixaria.
NO PERSONAL INFORMATION IS COLLECTED BY POPCARD.ME!
and there are no advertisements in the email with the JPEG card. My review of PopCard.me is found here:
A good online alternative to Apple iCards (R.I.P)

PopCard.me is a work in progress, and Jamie does respond well to communication with users.
