I live in hong kong and we never got a chance to get the first i phone so of course we got the unlocked iphone it was the slowest thing ive ever seen. But this time around I think it will be better, a reputable company is promoting it here with a great plan only US $69 for our best plan which has to be a great deal. I had the last iphone and i decided im going to go legal this time too much trouble with itunes, nad why wouldnt i go legal not like theres anything to gain except a whole bunch of hassle. I will be eagerly waiting in line on july 11th when it launches at our local apple retailer. The only thing the iphone is really missing is a decent camera 3.2 megapixels is what i have on my nokia before i got the old unlocked iphone. And video conferencing you see in hong kong when you say 3g we immeadiately presume u mean video conferencing if those features are intorduced which im sure they will, maybe a little bit more memeory would be nice as well 32gb would be nice but that said i dont really need that much i have a 32gb ipod touch so i dont have a problem with the lower memory. To upgrade wouldnt be a hassle the iphone 3g is an even better product its not like ugrading from an old ipod to a new one this phone has better stuff like gps and faster speeds when i dont have my laptop i use my iphone. It looks great it works even better what are u waiting for? this is a revoloutinary device, everybody wants to be part of the revoloution right?
Will current iPhone owners upgrade to 3G?

NO not really. 3g is not nearly as available in the States as it is in many places overseas. If one did not reside in a 3g area they would have to pay the extra $10 and extra for text messaging that included 200 messages in the current package.
1.0 is just fine for most people. 3g is good for people who travel alot and spend a great deal of time away from open wi-fi systems.
The built in gps is no Garmin or Tom-tom. No turn by turn software is onboard or available and I think it is prohibited in the SDK package.
IT is by no means a revolution but more like an evolution and a way to peel more bucks from your pocket.
I live in a 3g area but I am going to wait till the dust settles and see how it goes. If they offer discounts on the basic package and it gets jailbroken, I may consider upgrading this year and try to sell the old one on Ebay.

I was so excited to hear about the 3G coming out...
But I'm not excited to pay an extra $200 a year just for AT&T's crappy service.
I already pay $70 for service that stinks in areas I need it the most.
It's funny how the iPhone sounded like an awesome deal for the price. Oh well, how else is Apple and AT&T going to make their money- asking for more cash.
Oh well, I'll just stick to my 1st gen. and hope for the best.
Hey, if I can say to someone that I own an iPhone, then I'm content.

I admit 3g would be nice, but I'd feel harsh on my 7-month-old iPhone if I replaced her...
And I would have thought it would be cheaper to upgrade too... I can't see much sense in the £45 tariff being free to upgrade and the £35 tariff being £99, especially seeing as these are the people who are less likely to be able to afford to upgrade.
I will get one, but I'd like more use out of this one first, and I'm thinking if I upgrade it will be to 16gb.
Also 2.0 should keep me going.

I've been with Cingular/ATT wireless for 3+ years after being with: Alltel(analog); Sprint; US Cellular; T-Mobile and Verizon (voice crossover- audio problems made me leave after switching out 3 of their phones). My experiences are no better or worse with ATT than the others. Now, that said, I have had 3 different phones with ATT, the last being a Treo 750. I just got my iPhone in June and I love the large viewing area (keyboard is out of the way unless you need it); the sharp images; the great music via the headset which is also a mic for incoming calls; e-mail and internet capabilities (though these last 2 are slower because of Edge). The 3G feature is good, for fast downloads only, IF you have that service available in your area. Since there are so many, NON-3G areas, its not something to make me to trade in my old, updated iPhone for.
ATT will have to improve its services before this old man goes and buys - trades in for a 3G iPhone. Sorry Apple, You are the looser because of ATT's penny pinching attitude in both the wireless area and internet services available.
Hopefully, APPLE will make some more improvements to their future iPhones so when the 32nd day of Jumbemer comes around to ATT and they get their stuff together and makes HSD available to all the country I can upgrade. Til then, it's status quo!
