Firefox 3.0 released, servers overwhelmed

Not sure your 'lesson' is really logical. Couldn't it be argued that Firefox is so popular that people have flooded the servers in an effort to get the new version on its first day? Surely the "World Record" stunt isn't what is primarily driving people to the site.

Downloaded it a few minutes ago. Very much improved and...very much influenced by Safari. Sorry, I loved Firefox when Safari 3 hadn't come out, but now I just don't think I can go back. Still, it's good to see people motivated about using and promoting a very standards-compliant, open-source browser. Honestly, if I had a website, I'd make sure it worked in Safari, Firefox and maybe Opera. If someone visited my site using IE, I'd have it redirect them to a page with links to download those three browsers. :D

I got the Windows version down at a slow rate of 15kbps, but the Mac one wouldn't initiate download until I seleced "Save link as", and then it downloaded in seconds.
Pity my Mac Fiefox 3 still crashes on launch about 10% of the time. Mozilla get plenty of crash reports from me.

Well I'm sure the stunt hasn't hurt. But let's put it in perspective - this is only the third major release for this browser. The consensus seems to be that at 3.0, it's arrived. Why would someone who knows nothing about the browser or who doesn't want it, download it just to help set a record? The name Mozilla has made for itself with FF 2 and the run-up to 3.0, the word-of-mouth and community efforts, are what will fuel the success of 3.0.

I'm finding a host of character- and line-spacing problems with the new Firefox. One example is the header of this very page which, when refreshed, is highly compressed in the new Firefox, with the letters on top of one another -- and it's fine in Safari.
Also, my personal resume site and blog (www.myslewski.com) experiences multiple character-rendering problems (mostly too-wide kerning) and line breaks now appear where they're clearly not in the code. Serious problems. It appears that Firefox 3.0 was not ready for my dual 2.7GHz G5 running 10.5.3.
So now I have my work cut out for me tomorrow, trying to figure out why Firefox 3.0 makes me look like I don't know how to write simple HTML. If my clients move to Firefox 3.0, I'm going to look like an idiot, even if everything on my site renders perfectly in Firefox 2.x and Safari 3.x.
Sigh...
Thanks, Mozilla.

The MacWorld page and your page myslewski.com both look fine on my iMac G5 running FireFox 3. My default font is Times 18 in preferences.
