Please tell me you seriously are not disappointed that Apple's not fully supporting 9 and more year old hardware.

No, you miss the point. I am disappointed that Apple is not supporting an Apple OS that is newer than a Microsoft OS they are. In other words, it penalizes Macintosh users by comparison. Wouldn't you think that behavior more characteristic of an Apple competitor?

...[M]ost mac users have a seriously distorted sense of entitlement when it comes to Apple products, services and support. I'm sure somewhere out there is someone with an Apple IIe seriously pissed that they can't run OS X....

Well, it's true that, when you choose to side with the underdog, the underdog should at least be thankful. I don't think that crosses into a sense of entitlement. I assuredly do not expect OS X or iLife to run on my PowerBook 520c. In fact, I do not inherently resent any new software requiring new hardware -- e.g., Snow Leopard dropping PPC support. For Web-based services, though, I rank the MobileMe cutoff as akin to a site's telling me, "We're sorry, but your browser is not supported on this site. Please use the latest version of Internet Explorer."

I think address: me.com is just awful. It's such a statement about our intense self-focus I would be embarrassed to use it. Why couldn't it just be mobileme.com or mobile.me.com? Ridiculous.

My vote is to keep .Mac Slides. I also use iCards on occasion, but can live without them.
Apple is a democracy, isn't it? I'm SURE my vote will count!

The only reason I joined .Mac in the beginning was to sync contacts, bookmarks and calendars between multiple machines, and also to access my bookmarks from .Mac. Sync never worked worth a @#$%, duplicate address, calendars were all different and the bookmarks got out of control. I've never been able to access the bookmarks for the website either. So for me .Mac was a waste of time and money, MobileMe offers nothing to change my mind. Wish I could get a refund, even if it was just for credit in the iTunes store... that would be much more useful/valuable to me presently and in the future. Thanks Steve, but no thanks! How about giving us something we are actually asking for... where's my Mac Pro Mini Tower???!!!!

Its not impossible, I can push both my personal and my business emails from different yahoo accounts, more if needed directly to my macbook. Likewise to my current smart phone. If it can't be done with iphone or with mobile me I might just stick with my treo.

You also forgot there is no Memos/Notes that you can sync.
I was very disappointed to find OS X has no real Memo/Notes that you can categorize. I have used a Palm for years and found Memos an invaluable place to store all kinds of info, IN SEPARATE CATEGORIES. I was happy to see it in Apple Mail (both Notes and To Do's, but you have no way to categorize them. Was somebody sleeping when they brought this out?

I was disappointed the iPhone lacked this as well (a very important aspect to me) and ended up buying another Palm smartphone, that will categorize Memos/Notes and To Do's/Tasks, but using Mark Space's Missing Sync program.

As for .Mac, I have had the service almost 9 months and not found one instance where I could sync my data without having to use .Mac. I mean come on, for Address Book, iCal and Bookmarks, you can easily create a backup file from one computer and then import it into the respective program, without having to have an internet connection or paying $99/yr. OK, .Mac does it for you a bit quicker, when its on (that's another issue!)
I just don't get what the value of .Mac service provides, or perhaps its just not what I need.
I have also found .Mac spotty, sometimes I connect to the server, sometimes not.

The other thing I see here is the only phone you would be able to sync to would be the iPhone (of course). Sorry, but not everyone has one (or wants one) and to offer sync to other phones/devices I think would be in their interest.

It's not just the iPhone. IIRC, Exchange ActiveSync doesn't do notes either. Sucks too.

If you want computer to computer connection sans .Mac, there are 3rd party products that provide this. MarkSpace has one, if I remember right.

Nope. Once it's in Sync Services, then you should be able to sync to any phone that can use iSync. What you WON'T get is push email. But since we don't yet have all the details on how that's being implemented, it's hard to say if that's a permanent state.

Wow, I actually started this as a quick look at what mobile me has to offer, I am currently sbscribed to .mac and to be honest I love it, for a number of reasons:
The webstorage is great
The email address( come on how tiring is it when someone say "my email is dave@thisissrealylongdotcomigot.com
I have spent the last hour reading through this board, and I have came to the conclusion "some people are only happy when they are complaining", come on people, I am happy with .mac now it's getting better, much better , not worse, for the same cost....
One comment though, someone raised a concern about someone finding his iphone and deleting his contacts....
I use time machine. why because the data is important to me. it is my responsibility to protect it. Oh yeah I also lock my iphone when not in use.
the whole argument about my business webpage and email.... please we are talking .mac. try getting all the services offered elsewhere, and if you find it, go there.....
I have never heard so many complaints from grown adults about getting something more for what you already pay.

So it works for your life and work style - that doesn't mean it works for the rest of us or meets our needs. People are raising valid concerns here about mobileme (ok there are a few excessive whiners). I love Apple. But their marketing speak and reality tend to be a ways apart from time to time. Billing this as "exchange for the rest of us" is not really the whole truth when you take a closer look. Keep in mind those are their words not anyone else's.

Yes, it is true that some people like to complain, but I believe that you might be missing the bigger picture. The transition from .Mac to MobileMe imposes some level of loss of functionality upon its users.

I have been looking into .mac and mobile me and to say there is a loss of functionality is an exaggeration. The term exchange for the rest of us, seems to be the bane of most complaints but as an individual user I think it is perfect. Although I have only transitioned from PC to mac in the past six months I signed up for .mac and it seemed quite evident to me that it's purpose was not for individuals to set up business accounts or to use a series of pop email addresses. I can say that anyone who has been using it for anything other than personal use and who continues to use it for other purposes can't complain when the service upgrades it original intent. Personal use. And while I try to remain objective I find it very difficult, as an avid PC user for many years switching to apple for me was more of an experiment than anything else, that experiment turned into a paradigm shift in computing for me. The service, quality of apple products leaves all pc hardware and software behind in it's wake and while many of the products are not perfect they do have one thing in mind. Ease of use and reliability.

Dear linkerjpatrick,
You should really look into a hosted Zimbra account. Zimbra is very similar to what your are looking for with your own domain but many of the MobileMe features plus some.

Take a look. www.zimbra.com
-Cheers, Peter.

Is there a list somewhere of the cool me.com email addresses? I was hoping to grab look@me.com and sit@me.com but both are already taken. It would be interesting if there's a list of these cool email addresses.
