Has anyone asked GameTree Online when the full Mac version is coming out? Its pretty sad that after thinking the mac version was coming simultaneously, the downloadable version of a $9.99 game isn't out online for macs yet after all.

Not sure, but that shouldn't stop you from at least downloading the trial version, which is available for the Mac and has been since its release on Tuesday. It'll at least get you started on your way to making some weird creatures.

The 25% demo of Spore Creature editor is available for PC and mac fro free. However, to download the full version of Spore Creature Editor, you have to pay but until now you can only buy the full version for PC. EA uses a tool called download manager to distribute software and that tool is only available for PC. When I send a mail about this to EA support they answered that they don't support mac and that I must send my complaints to aspyr . Go figure ! I'm blogging how this will go further.

It is out on Mac -- It's a duel CD with both Windows & Mac version on the same disk.

When you are selling a piece of software that is $9.99 people are going to think about it like shareware almost. So to not have it available to download the full version online is pretty sad. Especially since its TransGaming doing the distribution. Most people don't go to the store to buy a game for $9.99. They expect games in that price range to be available online. Perhaps even online only.

That's curious, considering A) EA does support the Mac, and has been since last year, when they published half a dozen titles themselves, and B) Aspyr has absolutely nothing to do with Spore Creature Creator.

Please forward the e-mail to me at pcohen (at) macworld (dot) com. I'd like to forward it to my contacts at EA to let them know that their support staff needs to improve its training.

The game(?) is oddly addictive. After downloading it I played around for more than two hours not realizing so much time had passed. Bought the program - proof that demos are a good idea, I hadn't intended on it originally.
Hint for MacBook owners. If you own another Mac that can run the game, screensharing can let you create on the MacBook, though you lose sound and the graphics over screen sharing are too slow to play with the testing phase.

Anyone know if creatures created on a Mac can be seen be seen and accessed by PC users and vice versa? It's using Cider, so it should work, right?

Yeah. So far the only game I've seen separate Mac users from PC users was Everquest and that was a big mistake. They aren't screwing that up again. They already saw it fail for Sony.

If they don't/aren't going have the software to distribute to Mac users, why is 'Buy the Spore Creature Creator (Mac Download) Coming Soon!' in the link list on the download page?

Also, if game Tree can't distribute the full version, why could they distribute the trial version? And any sort of time estimate from EA on the mac downloadable release would be nice so we'd know whether its worth it to order the boxed version or just wait a few days.
