If anyone ever had any illusions that MS listened to or gave a fig for the preferences of their users, cutting off XP when the market still craves it should finally disabuse them of that delusion. If Vista were actually a superior OS the cut-off might be justified, but since it clearly is not - as the ongoing demand for XP demonstrates - MS is closing out XP sales for the sole purpose of foisting a lame upgrade on a captive audience. While it may be reasonable for them to wish to end support for the older OS, this makes little sense as long as XP sales are robust. The market should decide the issue and, eventually, it will as more and more people look for an alternative to Microsoft.

Very well said.
I have never had any illusions that M$ listed to or gave a fig for MY preferences.
I am only one small bug but my wallet speaks volumes when it comes to who I will support.
On May 14th, I gave $1500 to the one company I now care a fig about. For that $1500 they gave me a magnificent iMac. Like Bill Gates to M$, bye bye.
