Seconded, but IIRC, this law was set in motion before texting caught on over here. Perhaps it can be amended faster than it took to get it passed the first time.

If people would just use some common sense we wouldn't need laws for every little thing.

And if my grandma had wheels she'd be a wheelbarrow.

Best advice I've heard from Macworld yet.

I don't why people prioritize talking on their phone over watching the road and driving. I guess they figure they've done it enough times that it's intuitive. Problem is, you can't be alert and talking on the phone. 99% of the population won't react quick enough.

The other part of the problem is that of this 99 % of the population, 99 % of them think they are in the 1 % that can react quick enough. Making these delusionals even more dangerous !

Unlike your little gun rant, the cell phone law can be seen in action obviously and immediately. The "felt safer" is from the simple and obvious observation that people are, wait for it... ACTUALLY PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ROAD. It doesn't require a "study", it can be seen every day on the road. In many countries, it is also illegal to smoke a cigarette while driving, for the same reason. When you're on the road with me, you will not endanger my life, and I will not endanger yours. Simple. Very, very simple.

I could throw a bunch of gun studies at you that say that the majority of injuries from guns are to those who live in the house, but this is not the place for that.

Just last month a Carnegie Mellon University study showed through brain imaging that listening to any noise while behind the wheel reduces by 37 per cent the amount of brain activity associated with driving. That could cause motorists to steer across road lanes.

The Cell Phone laws are constantly changes and they are rarely if ever posted. I'm a frequent business traveler and iPhone user. I have had serveral friends stung with tickets...simply because they didn't know the cell phone laws.

I recently developed an iPhone - geo location application called Cell Ban. Cell Ban informs you if you are in a Cell Phone restricted area.

The app also provides a directory listing by state and country.
