According to the Apple website Web access to bookmarks will not be supported but bookmark sync between your Macs and/or PCs is still supported.
This is an important distinction!

exactly, i don't know why people keep reporting that apple is dropping bookmark syncing because they aren't. the only thing they are no longer supporting is web based bookmarks, as in you will no longer be able to log into your .mac/mobileme account and see your bookmarks.... the ability to sync bookmarks between computers and devices is still there. the reason why apple gave a warning is for those who added bookmarks to their online bookmarks and still haven't synced them with their computer.

Maybe I'm cheap, but it would be nice if the days this is shut down are credited back to the account (or extended).
or maybe either the author of this article could be A LOT more clear or you could just go to the link in the article to discover that it won't be shut down for days.... in fact it will only be down for a maximum of 6 hours (6pm-12am PT) with mobileme launching during that time frame:
MobileMe Launch
7/9/2008, 6pm-12am PT
As part of the MobileMe launch, www.mac.com will be taken offline at 6pm PT on Wednesday, July 9th.
Members will be unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services during this time with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch.
MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window.

Your email will still be active. I have another thought. As far as I am concerned at the point in time I do not own an iPhone (no plans to own one in the future), I do not own a iTouch (again not plans to own one in the future), and I do not us a PC. So as far as I am concerned Apple has just did a rename from .Mac to MobileMe. I wonder how many other .Mac users are like me.
I will consider an iPhone when Apple makes them available to all mobile phone carriers. Besides AT&T does not support my area of the United States. I still have my original iPod and have seen any reason to go to a iTouch. Call me cheap, but with the economy going in the toilet, I just cannot stay on the cutting edge any longer.

You know what would have been nice?
If Apple had told me about this downtime via my .Mac mail account.
Since I keep all of my current working documents on my iDisk, It's sort of important for me to know about things like a 6 hour frickin' downtime window. In fact, I'm paranoid enough that I'm moving all my important stuff off of my iDisk until this update blows over...

What's going to happen to the 'old' dot Mac URL's for personal websites? Will those be inaccessible and/or change as well? I have two sites, developed with Softpress' Freeway, and uploaded to my iDisk Sites folder. The URL is 'http://homepage.mac.com/myusername/mysitename.'
I guess what I'm wondering is if that address will remain valid, or if I will have to contact a lot of folks who have my sites bookmarked and tell them they'll have to change their bookmarks and/or links page info.
