I've downloaded the software,
Gone to System Preferences - Then mobile me, then I receive (the mobile me systems pane could not be loaded)
Why is this happening?

Raja -- I've had no trouble receiving my Mac mail through either the Mail app or on my current iPhone; those reporting problems may be trying to access via the Web portal which was scheduled to be down from last night on.

MSJr -- I think that's going to happen automatically, so if you have a "MSJr(at)mac.com" you'll automatically get a "MSJr(at)me.com".

My experience with this has been incredibly inconsistent. I'm writing this as of 5:30 PM EDT.

On my Mac running Leopard 10.5.4, I downloaded and installed the MobileMe software. I now have the new MobileMe icon in Sys Prefs. If I try connecting with my .Mac account I get an immediate failure, telling my name or password may be invalid. I've been trying all day and have had no success getting in.
On another Mac here at work running Tiger 10.4.11, still using the .Mac prefpane, I can log into my .Mac account with no issues. I'm not quite sure what's happening, but it seems the MobileMe software I installed is not letting me connect. It must use a different method of connecting than the old .Mac prefpane, which is odd. It could also be Leopard somehow, but I kind of doubt that. If anything, I'd almost expect a Tiger system to have more trouble connecting than Leopard, but who knows?

On both machines, I'm not able to get to the MobileMe page in any browser. If connect to mac.com I get a maintenance placeholder page. If I connect to me.com, I'm directed to the general info page on MobileMe, which has no login fields to be seen.

In all of this, I can still receive mail OK, so that's once saving grace, but at the moment, this service is effectively neutered.

I can only conclude that Apple has problems on their hands and has botched up this upgrade. I hope they get this worked out soon, because the fallout could be ugly

I just checked and was able to get to all areas of MobileMe. My browser remembers the last tab I visited so it opened up in the iDisk tab. I can check Mail and it even stuck the number of unread messages on the main page. So far, so good. I haven't checked to see if the preferences update has come through.

I was able to view my email and I'm currently viewing my gallery. No luck with the calendar or address book so far. Looks like it's slowly coming online!!!

You can go to Apples Forum and pick what you want to read. Also login if you wish.

But it also says the forum is doing more maintenance at 6:30pm PT tonight, 10th.

Over here in the UK at 11:40 MobileMe appears to be up and running without any problems. I love the new layout, and all the web apps are speedy and quick at doing what I ask.

Better late than never!!!

Thanks Apple!

Any idea how long this upgrade is going to take? I haven't been able to access my iDisk for two days or so via the web. The site doesn't list an estimated completion time/date from what I can see.

Seems to be done and operational now. I was able to log in (using my .mac ID, I didn't try a me.com equivalent), upload my iWeb gallery pages, connect to www.me.com and look at iDisk, Mail, Calendar, etc. A little slow in places, a few timeouts, a few aesthetic glitches (like a left side menu gray bar draws over the iDisk preferences dialog), and once I managed to crash Safari trying to create a calendar entry (though it didn't repeat).
