"On the other hand if you are using it with your Apple TV, you will find that unless you've spent 2 days syncing your 200GB iTunes library to your 40 GB Apple TV, Remote app is completely useless. Remote app doesn't support Apple TV with a shared iTunes library. All your movies, music, videos and playlists have to be located on your Apple TV."
Not true. I'm using it with my Apple TV right now, with no music content synced to the appetv. It's all streaming from itunes on my mac.

On the Apple TV under settings/Computers, I have my iMac set up as a shared iTunes Library source. That's about it. I don't have any music synced onto the Apple TV itself. I paired the iPhone remote application with the Apple TV. It lets me use the Apple TV to play music that streams from my iMac iTunes library.
Did you update your Apple TV software today? You need the latest version available July 10, 2008. You also need iPhone firmware 2.0, and iTunes 7.7. Plus, iTunes has to be running on the Mac in order to stream the content to the Apple TV.
I would expect iPhone Remote to also play content already synced to the Apple TV, but I haven't tried that yet.

Ok - since you have it working too, here's a question: Have you found a volume control when controlling your apple TV from the iPhone using Remote? It kinda defeats the purpose of having such a spiffy remote if I have to keep getting up and walking over to the TV to adjust the volume. If you do have a volume control, how do you access it?

While everyone seems to be busy tweaking their iPhone 3G to work properly with iTunes, has anyone realized that this remote ability of a device for various media players has been out there for years now?
Not just iTunes but various applications (keynote, powerpoint, quicktime, vlc, front row, airfoil among others, even the mouse cursor and also it can put your system to sleep/shutdown) and with various mobile phones/devices...and take note...on mac or windows platform. I've been using Salling Clicker for that task. Unfortunately, iPhone don't allow 3rd party application for the task since its launch coz i believe it would pre-empt their plans.
Connection can be bluetooth or wifi too.

This is a great app being able to remote control itunes with iphone. Now no matter where I am in my house I always have access to the surround sound controls. It would be cool if the cover flow view on the tv or computer screen in itunes changed while using this app but it doesn't. I would love to see that change and also being able to control other apps in the itunes program through this remote to would be fabulous like the aol streaming radio.

Maybe I'm dense, but I'm not seeing a volume slider. When i tap the album art i see a slider that lets me adjust the playhead forward or back, but I can't find a volume control. How did you get it to show up?
You'll see the volume slider only when controlling iTunes; the Apple TV has a line-level audio output so you can't control volume level.

As far as the iphone goes when using remote app I have always had a volume slider below the artwork. If I tap the artwork I get the slider on top to advance or reverse playback. I am not sure if the ipod touch is different or not. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app that may help to bring the volume control for you.

The slider is visible on the screen when controlling an Apple TV, but it's grayed out (inactive), indicating that you can't adjust volume. When controlling iTunes, the slider is active.
