Only when Apple's support page states that it's live will it be so. As of 9:15 EST, it is not live.

Push means not having to launch an application, which takes up processing power and the trouble to launch an app to do the checking. If you expected it to be instant-on all the time, imagine the power needed at the server to do that all the time for a million people.

It takes nearly 5 minutes for my email to finally get 'pushed'. I'm disappointed. I could set it to check every 5 minutes if I wanted to. How's this better?
what's not to understand why this isn't better.
if you get one email throughout the day and you have your iphone check for mail every 5 minutes that means you iphone will have checked the server 288 throughout the day wasting battery power each time. with push mail, the only time the mail app on the phone connects to the server is when the mail is being pushed to it - so if you got only one email throughout the day then your iphone only connects to the server once.
would you be less disappointed if apple sent a singing telegram to your house every time you got an email?

It's down again and the message on the page says "we are currently performing scheduled maintenance".
-Which is a really nice and obscure way of saying, "we don't know what the fudge is wrong with it!"
btw-I, for one, am so happy that I'm paying $99 for a subscription that syncs when it wants to, goes down when you need it, and moves slower than a tortoise taking a siesta. (bitter? No, not me, no way, couldn't happen! Bloody fkin hell anyways!)

The MobileMe service is very erratic right now, not surprisingly.
To know the current status, go to www.apple.com/support/dotmac/. Although that page still refers largely to .Mac, it gives status info about MobileMe.

"Contact and calendar events are synced every 15 minutes on your devices."
I thought the contact and calendar info were pushed. The MobileMe demo video certainly made it seem that way. Major false advertising.

the contact and calendars ARE pushed:

>Push keeps contacts up to date.
>Ever been on the road without an important phone number? With MobileMe, your contacts are pushed to all your devices and everything stays up to date. Make a change on your computer, and MobileMe updates your iPhone automatically. Likewise, when you make a change on your iPhone, it?s instantly pushed to your computer. Whether you use Address Book on a Mac, Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Contacts on a PC, or Contacts on your iPhone or iPod touch, >you?ll always have the information you need.
>You?re always up to date.
>You?ll never miss a lunch date or an important meeting. MobileMe pushes your calendar to your iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC.
>No dock required.
>With push technology, all of the contacts on your iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC stay up to date without a dock, a cable, or you doing anything at all.

The Macworld article (that these comments are attached to) denied this. It said they are updated every 15 minutes, not push updated as changes occur.
are you kidding me? you obviously don't have a clue how push technology works. the information is PUSHED to your phone instead of your phone going somewhere to get it. you asked how this is any different, well you no longer need to connect your iphone to your computer to have all of your devices synced up. any info added to your iphone while away from your computer will automatically be pushed to your computer without having to connect the two... and vice versa. it's not that hard to understand. macworld can call it whatever they want but the fact is that all of your info is being pushed. just because any new info is being pushed at 15 minute increments doesn't change the fact that the info is being pushed.... and just because Jim is saying the info is being synced doesn't mean that it's not being pushed. Apple is using PUSH technology to SYNC up your info, your info is being synced up every "x" minutes because it's being PUSHED.
