Love my new 3G phone. One caution though. When considering the value of 3G it is only available in very populated areas. These same areas have a large wifi footprint. When you leave those areas, you most likely end up with a little wifi & 2.5G data. Still love it.

Yes, the iPhone have many nice and useful attributes. And love is a nice feeling. Enjoy!

There are some hardware improvements, but not enough to warrant and upgrade. Although cosmetic, I prefer the Aluminum back of my iPhone to the plastic, which to me makes it look cheaper; it looks like a child from a a previous marriage, when next to my Mac Family ( Macbook Pro, Powerbook G4 and iMac, Apple TV). The 3G enhancement is negated, if you aren't in a 3G service area or have access to Wi-Fi, which is a free service provided by almost all businesses including coffee shops, libraries, hotels, restaurants, some gas stations. personally, Oh, I do not like the way it wobbles now...However, the headphone input not being recessed is an improvement. The huge plus for me as an early adopter is that I won't be paying more for AT& T's "exceptional" lol service.
In the end, I think it comes out even for both sides.

I do agree. I just bought the 24'' iMac, and lo and
behold, the evolution has been from plastic to aluminum! So why have they
done it the other way around with iPhone? It looks cheaper? Yes it does. But - then again - why have they done it? Economical reasons?

As far as headphones are concerned I have bought a nica pair from Sennheiser, and it fits into the original iPhone outlet. The sound is just great! I even get a noise reduction because of the tight fittings to the ear.

Yes, it would be excellent if iPhone had video capabilities. I carry my digital camera with me everywhere, along with a phone and an iPod. I'd hoped to blend them all into one appliance, but it sounds like I'll have to keep carrying my camera. BTW, can the iPhone plug into my car mini-plug (headphone jack) like my current iPod so I can crank up the tunes? Can I use my car stereo speakers, then, as a speaker phone? And can the iPhone plug into my Apple HiFi? I hate to think that the addition of an iPhone is merely going to add another gizmo to my handful of things to carry. http://I was the guy...my Apple store.

Thanks for the great review, and all the poster links. Is it a perfect phone? No, but it comes a whole lot closer to what I need than anything Verizon has to offer. I've had a new every 2 discount that's been sitting unused for 2 1/2 years. A bar or slider format, a screen font that's large enough to read at a quick glance, GPS, and the ability to check email and synch with iCal. Didn't think that was too much to ask, apparently Big Red does. Mine's on order and I can't wait for it to get here. Still have 4 weeks left on my contract, so will be able to test them side by side in my ATT fringe area. As long as there aren't too many dropped calls/dead zones, I'm good. Everything else is a bonus.

pinktech - I do not think you will regret your purchase. I love this phone... works seamlessly with other Apple products, incredible 'fun' factor, as well as functionality. enjoy!!

Mybe my thinking was not quite out of pace with reality after all?
A reserch done by iSuppli, and referred in a newly published article in Buisnessweek, discovered that the materials in the new iPhone costs approx 53 USD less than that in the original iPhone.

Because I am writing this on my iPhone, I am not able to paste in the links to the articles. (hi ho apple. And you have put this function way down on your priority list?! In which reality are you living I might ask. But I won't).

I've heard of iPhone 3G troubles, crashes, and other horror stories, but I can't find any details about most of these (which were rather vague, non-specific comments). I went to my local AT&T store at 5:30 in the morning on July 11 (nearest Apple store about 400 miles away), waited about three and a half hours in line and got the phone I wanted. The only problem that day was iTunes being overwhelmed so most of us couldn't register our phones that day.
I LOVE my iPhone 3G (16GB). I have about a dozen apps from the App store on it and none has caused me any trouble. I use it more than I could have imagined, and can get online everywhere I've been so far. I got the phone for that purpose... to be able to access the internet away from home or a hotel's internet service. I dig the GPS/Maps capability; I am impressed that I can look up a business kind (say, "tailor") and get maps with all tailors within a reasonable distance of my location, plus a two-tap process to call them.
My only complaint about the entire subject is that all my 'research' in the weeks leading up to the release failed to inform me my iMac G5 with OSX 10.3.9 and iTunes 6 would not work with my new phone. Fortunately, I just happened to have a Mac Mini lying around (unopened for 18 months) that I had never set up, and the phone caused me to have to get off my butt and get it up and running. In retrospect, I consider that another good thing about the iPhone... I finally set up my second computer because I had to in order to use my phone. (I still need the OS9 capabilities of OSX 10.3.9, honestly. I couldn't do without it.)
The reviews in the App store helped me select which apps to buy/download. I don't need the enterprise features, and syncing hasn't been a problem for me when I make a change either on the computer or the phone. I use "ShoppingList", Dobot Todos, ebaY, AOL Radio, Pandora, Showtimes, WeatherBug, SodaSnap, VoiceNotes, and have PayPal and Remote on the phone though I haven't used them yet. The onboard camera seems fine to me; I have a separate digital camera if I need to take serious pictures.
I'm looking forward to more applications coming out for the phone. Call me satisfied.

I sold my iPhone 1.0 on eBay for $471, after upgrading to the new 3G phone. I know a 32GB phone will come out, probably before the end of the year, but I wanted the GPS capability now. I love the new phone, but I do have more dropped calls or no signal than I did with the older model phone.
No matter though - this is by far the best phone available. I also congratulate Apple on the App store - what a concept! I love going through the store and seeing what new Apps are available (although I think Apple needs a better way of showing this). I also like seeing the reviews of the apps so I know which are good and which aren't. I'd like to see MacWorld do an article on the best Apps in the app store, and what people are doing with them.

Don't get me wrong i love my iPhone, above all because it's a little portable unix computer, who doesn't love that, but does it still not have a cut and paste feature. I was amazed it didn't have one in the first place, but it's been a long time now and I wouldn't know how to cut and paste text on my iphone. Am I missing something?
