This sounds like live or on-the-fly partitioning that I have seen mentioned but never described.

I stand corrected. I'm still using Tiger and from what I can tell, what you're doing is not possible with Tiger and I'm not in a hurry to try this method out..

No Problem, I assumed as much.
Usually when there is a difference in opinion between two intelligent people the information is either ambiguous or they aren't looking at the same data. In this case it was the latter.

The way I saw it was, at the very least someone might be helped by this some time in the future, so why not post it? I would like clear instructions if I were looking for something.

To anyone looking at this after the thread has died, I was Using OS X 10.5.4 and Disk Utility version 11.1 (252.3) when this was discussed.
