I just got this email myself. Good to see an acknowledgement of the issues they had with this. I know some will still want an "apology" concerning iPhone activations, but I don't think the blame for that was entirely on Apple, so I don't think we'll see one about that.

"Apple will also stop using the word “push” to describe everything in MobileMe."
So is this temporary until they can make it work, or is it dead? :(

Here's the full message if anyone is interested-

>We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.
>
>Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.
>
>Another snag we have run into is our use of the word "push" in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe "cloud," changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word "push" until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.
>
>We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.
>
>We hope you enjoy your new suite of web applications at me.com, in addition to keeping your iPhone and iPod touch wirelessly in sync with these new web applications and your Mac or PC.
>
>Thank you,
>The MobileMe Team

My webpage still looks like crap! When are those going to get fixed? Lots of broken graphic links.

I've got several other websites that are exhibiting the same behavior as well.

So is this something they can fix? From the underlined portion, it sounds like they're trying to make it instant on the desktop as well, but are there currently things out of Apple's control that are holding this back?

I have yet to receive the email...did it only go to new mobilme users, or did it go to former .mac users too?

I've been a .Mac user since before it was called .Mac (iTools anyone?) So no, this should have gone to all users, new and old. I'm sure yours will show up soon.

As I still haven't got 'Push' email to work for MobileMe, I suppose I'll have to go and do a manual email check to see if I've received this email....
Still, good to see Apple 'Doing The Right Thing' by it's customers.

From the wording, it sounds like they're working to find a way to make it instantaneous on the desktop side. That's my hope anyway. Of course, there was a hint on macosxhints.com a few days ago where the sync process can be changed to anything you like by editing a plist file. I suspect however that Apple wants to find a way to make the updates happen only when something has actually been updated, not every 30 seconds or whatever, regardless of whether you're making any changes. That would tax their servers too much I think. I don't think any of us want Apple's servers overworked.

Hmm. The "Share with iDisk" feature that was originally promised is still missing, I wonder if this is temporary or it's gone forever.

My guess is that Snow Leopard will add true Push to Mac OS X. For now, you can set that interval to something more often than 15 minutes, if you're comfortable with the Property List Editor. Mac OS X Hints had a story about it a few days ago. I've set mine to every minute, so it's very close to actual Push speed, even though technically, it's still not Push. Apple's servers are obviously capable of Push; the iPhone and the Web apps are true Push; it's just that Mac OS X is set up to sync, as it always has, even when you set the interval to "automatic". Shouldn't be a problem for Apple to add that functionality to Mail, Calendar, Address Book, etc. Or just add it to iSync and let it take care of all changes.

They say "Everything is up and running", but you still can't add an address to a new email message using "Contacts"... that has never been up...
