I think it is "semantics": when Snow Leopard arrives (or before that) we will see "push from the desktop".
But people got a little hysterical --IMO-- about its "15 minutes of glory" (Andy Wharhol's dixit).
So, they change the "word".

So is this temporary until they can make it work, or is it dead? :(

There's a way to get it down to 1 minute intervals, by changing some settings. No doubt it will become common knowledge, though I don't remember exactly how to do it at the moment. Maybe OSXhints.com?

Two major problems remain for me as of Wednesday morning - (1) Still no communication between my Mac and the cloud. No iCal sync'ing either way. Last OS. All updates applied, prefs set to "Automatic". "Sync Now" tried many times over the past few days. Unregistered and re-registered my desktop Mac, all to no avail. (2) Mail forwarded from my domain is not accepted by me.com. Mac.com accpeted it just fine. Me.com won't be accepts forwarded mail from my other accounts. Yes, Two Major Problems exist, and the one with iCal not sync'ing to the cloud AT ALL, EITHER WAY, is being reported by many other users. "Up and running" is simply not true.

I just opened your web page in Firefox 3. All the links worked for me and I was able to see your pictures no problem.

I think this is an important distinction. How many people signed up for that crappy service expecting PUSH service because Steve Jobiejobs called it push? I don't think it's dead. I don't think it ever was.

Apple is turning more like Microsoft everyday. Thank god I didn't upgrade.

Thanks to everyone who explained why "push" services from the desktop aren't quite there yet. :)

Reminds me of fiber infrastructure vs. fiber to your door.

I donʼt mind 15 minutes but my website is gone from iWeb, at least. And when I tried to open another .html-document, iWeb could not open it and now I cannot open iWeb! Maybe that is something which has to do with iWeb only, but...
Anyway, I am grateful for the extra 30 days and hopefully I will receive that e-mail as well as a token of the fact that I have been a paying customer since December 2003.
But, on the positive side - it is way, way faster than dot Mac was, this MobileMe, here in Europe, at least.
Hope they can get it all to work soon and add some new features - and maybe they should have sent us and iCards with the apology? :)

Well I am really impressed by Apple, not only are they acknowledging it but they are giving a free-month when most people only lost a few days of service. This is so rare today that a large business such as Apple to make good on this. And they are going to change their tune on the "push" services. As of late Apple as heard their customer complaints and is really being proactive about fixing things. With all the recent success Apple has enjoyed, its nice to see them taking a step back and making things right instead of getting complacent in their new standing in the tech world.

This all I really wanted from apple! Acknowledgement of service problems and the limitations of the new services. If you are going to be working on the desktop, you really don't need instant sync with your other devices. At worse, you can hit the sync button when you leave the office to assure you have the last info on MobileMe and the iphone.

Nice gesture, considering mail continued to work through the transition. I wonder if it is US only since I have not received that email from Apple, nor does my account page on Mobile Me reflect such an extension.

My website, too, looks like crap!

Apple's support pages offer no answers for frustrated iWeb users despite a ridiculous number of posted inquiries since Friday: http://discussions.a...603877&tstart=0 (One of several opportunities Apple has provided iWeb/.Mac users to "provide feedback" that seems to be exclusively one-way.)

>Hmm. The "Share with iDisk" feature that was originally promised is still missing, I wonder if this is temporary or it's gone forever.
According to http://www.apple.com...ures/idisk.html
>Coming soon: email large files
>Soon, a new feature in iDisk will make it simple to share files too big for email by automatically sending a message with a simple link that always gets delivered. The recipient will just click on the link to download the file.

Well, it's all about good corporate karma. Apple was pretty danged quiet during the transisiton and now they've acknowledged what we were all pretty much aware of. 'Rocky' is not the adjective I'd use for the move, but whatever...

Extending everyone by a month for a 3-4 day problem...THAT is a great gesture. Much appreciated.

Now...let's get the contact situation fixed for those trying to write an email, eh? You can still go to your contact list and go the the person's v-card and then click their address there, but that's a workaround.

It's getting better, but we're not all there yet.

Thank you, Apple. It's not that it was broken, it's that you owned up and made it right!
There is a way to make the desktop sync faster via a change in Property List down to 1 minute....and really, do we need things to sync faster than one 1 minute?
The other option is to right-click on the MobileMe icon in the bar and do a manual sync. Really, that is the quickest way for now....
