When will this bigger megapixel nonsense end? You don't get better pictures with these tiny sensors. You get more noise, image degradation. How about fewer megapixels and better lens correction built into the image processor? Faster shooting times? Better LCDs? Better exposure logic?

As far as I am concerned, 6 or 7 megapixels is the optimum for these pocket cameras.
What I want is better performance at higher ISO settings. Give me less noise at 800, or better yet 1600 (without flash, of course).
That said, my favorites are the Canon ELPH cameras. I believe they have good ease of use and great value for the money.

I agree with the above two posts. High MP is mostly a marketing ploy aimed at consumers who have always been told that the more megapixels a camera has the better the image. 7-8 megapixels is enough for very large prints. Beyond a point having more megapixels actually hurts image quality. On a camera with a very small sensor like a compact camera a higher megapixel camera will tend to produce substantially more noise in high-ISO (meaning low light or fast action more or less) shooting. I am a very serious shooter with a lot invested in the hobby and given the choice i'd take an 8mp compact over a 13 in a heartbeat.
