Two frustrations I have with the Applications

1) On the iphone, happens with a new application or updating an existing, the load to the phone won't complete. It seems to keep restarting the install. Most times it finally completes. In one instance I ended up deleting the application and loading from iTunes

2) I've found when the iphone is connected to iTunes and the backup/update of applications is occurring, the iphone will get stuck in a reboot with the Apple on the screen. I've disconnected the phone and done a home/power to restart it again. Eventually it all works but my personal experience is the execution of many of my application loads/updates to the iPhone have not been a pleasant experience.

Both of those things are driving me crazy. Did Apple even test updating before 7/11? And any app that updates via the phone (in my experience, the best way to get the latest versions) should absolutely go back in the same spot as the old version. The old Apple (the one that didn't bite off more than it could chew) wouldn't have let it get out the door like this.

The AppStore icon in my iPhone shows that I have 1 software that needs to be updated. But when trying to update via iPhone, it tells me that the software in question is currently being updated. So, the nagging number 1 is right up there, and there seems to be no simple way of tearing it down or making it go away. I tried connecting to iTunes to update the apps, it tells me that all are updated. When I sync the iPhone to the iTunes, the number 1 mark on the App Store is still there. Anyone has the same problem?

Lets all give apple some time to breathe. With so many product and new feature launches, I bet all their engineers are caught up with small updates and fixes etc. They need some time to resolve issues.. It will all be fine soon.

I'm sorry, but Apple had time to breathe. No one forced the company to launch MobileMe, iTunes 7.7, the App Store, and the iPhone 3G (in what, 21 countries?) all in the same 36-hour period. Plenty of us were discussing this weeks in advance, figuring they must have a plan, since anyone could see that it could easily be a disaster in the making. Last year's original iPhone launch was beset with server issues, so I figured they'd at least have that much handled.

I think what's got so many of us flummoxed is that Apple's usually been the company that does things better than the other guys. We've come to count on certain things. Beautiful products, check. Crazy secretive, check. Things that "just work," check. The current situation was so predictable, it's astonishing to me that they appear to have been blindsided by it. Ever since Leopard's launch (actually, from the first leaked "transparent menubar" screenshots), we've been gathering evidence that the emperor's shopping in a new store lately. And it's upsetting because Apple's made it so attractive to convert so much of our lives to digital that if they can't pull out of the creative & technical tailspin, where are we supposed to go?

Okay, enough melodrama. :) Back to work.

Yeah, things have been weird with hat Backup feature, but I know it won't kill me. Moreover, I somehow have faith that Apple realizes that this implementation is cheesy and will do something about that.
In the meantime, lemme enjoy my brand new iPhone which, even as full of flaws as it is (as said by lots of people in these forums), is turning to be a wonderful product experience (compared to other cellphones I had so far).
And no, I am not blind or too sympathetic. I just been using Macs for too long, I guess (16 years). Maybe it's like a marriage: you get to get used to some of your partner's character flaws, but even then still loves it a lot....

[edit:] By the way, it the freaky backup thingie starts to look like it's going to take a long time, I do one of the below:
1-if I just don't immediately have to use the iPhone (normally the case), I may go for a break or do something else or
2-just forget the phone connected to the mac and do other things. If I'm working, I normally don't even fell that the thing
took a long time to be done.
3-if i'm in a hurry, I just press the darn X button and cancel the thing
4-if the X button doesn't stop it immediately, and if I'm in a REAL hurry (rare), I just pull the darn USB plug.
Yeah, yeah, I know: crazy and risky. But iPhone's still alive and kicking after doing that 4 times,
since july 12 (to be sincere, I really hope to not being forced to do that again - but if required would do it again without a flinch).

Hard reset with home and power button pressed till it clicks off. Hold power putton for a few seconds to power on. Then on Itunes download the exact same app and it will say update is free as you alrady own copy, job done.

I think the update plays up if your connection breaks. Wiser to update via itunes. If you end up wiht 2 copies attach the iphone and on the iphone settings on itunes click applications and check and uncheck applications you do and don't want.
