Hello.

My wife is using a dual-usb iBook that we purchased back in May 2001. It came with OS 9 and OS X (10.0.something) pre-loaded. She's only ever used the OS 9 side of things.

The OS 9 partition is up to 9.2.2 and behaves just fine. We're interested in using the OS X side of things more, as she understands OS 9 is now considered "old."

I picked up the Jaguar CD over the weekend. I expected to just run an "upgrade" but the installer said "you can't upgrade this OS."

I don't want to have to scrub the entire drive, re-partition, etc.

Will the archive/install option only touch the OS 10.0.something partition and leave the 9.2.2 side of things alone?

I'm basically scared of clicking "okay", to only find out that I've wiped everything clean from the drive. End result would = divorce...LOL.

thanks
Chris

I've seen both things happen. I have only seen the OS X installer/updater affect the OS X partition. But then there was that old iTunes installer that wiped all partitions with multiple-word names, so you never know!

But then, you shouldn't have to worry what happens because her Mac is completely backed up, right??? A bootable mirror backup on an external FireWire drive is a very small price to pay to keep your wife. images/icons/smile.gif

You never know... I kow of some people who wish getting rid of their wife was just that easy. A few short clicks and all their problems away. That would make them content
