I wanted to install my elderly version of Virtual PC 4.0.2 on a brand new iMac 800 MHz running Jaguar.

I don't use Virtual PC a lot and was counting on running it in Mac OS 9.

But When installing, Jaguar automatically switches to Classic mode - and then tells me that I cannot install Virtual PC when other programs are running. Apparently "Classic Mode" is considered a separate program by Jaguar and the installer program.

Is there a way to start this new iMac directly in Classic mode (so that Jaguar is not running)?

Any suggestions?

Virtual PC 4 doesn't know anything about OS X and probably won't allow you to launch in OS X, even in Classic. (This is certainly the case with VPC 5.)

You must use your Startup Disk preference to set your startup folder to OS 9 then restart. I think this is the only way VPC 4 will install and run. You can also press Option while restarting to choose your startup system if you are keeping OS 9 on a different volume than OS X.

Thanx a lot. I'll see how it works!
