You should probably add the huge speed benefit of opening links in tabs. These load in the background so if when you're reading through a page open three of four links you may want to read in new tabs. By the time you're finished with the current page the new tabs will be fully loaded.

Two more tips:

1. A "middle" mouse click will open a link in a new tab. This works in both Firefox and Safari, on OS X, Windows and Ubuntu Linux.
On a typical scroll-wheel mouse, pushing the scroll-wheel registers by default as a middle mouse click.
On an Apple Mighty Mouse, you can assign the scroll wheel button to be a middle click.

2. If you have two browser windows open, you can drag links from one window to the other. I find this to often be faster than opening a new window or tab, and you already have the 2nd window positioned where you want on the screen.

I cannot compare it to any of the other solutions as I havenʼt tried any of them, but it is working well. No problems at all with it and a good support, too, in case you need it, which I have to say is another plus, aside from the price - free:)
I have installed Ubuntu on it and aside from a couple of problems I was not aware of - to install some additions to get better screen resolution and not having the cursor to be captured by the virtual machine, and that the CD/DVD-drive was shared so when I had a DVD there playing in Mac OS X, I got an error and could not start up the VM - of course. But that was soon enough fixed.
But I donʼt know how well it will play games, for instance. It did not support special effects for Ubuntu, at least, and it seems like this is not supported - but perhaps it will be?

But if you have enough space and need to run, say, Windows XP, I would say that this is a good solution for it, at least as long as you do not need more advanced graphical powers. It has run very stable, too.

Cool Iris -- now I think for Safari as well as Firefox allows you to open temporary windows in the foreground, either disappearing at mouse-off or sticking while you're in the tab. very, very handy on pages with a lot of links you want to check out quickly, e.g., a google search results page or the front page of a news site with multiple stories of interest. and when you hit a keeper page, you can load it in its own tab. Essential to me.
Google Desktop works, but I found it to be a real resource hog and quit using it last year. Anyone want to correct me about this (or subsequent updates, feel free.....

IE Page for Firefox Windows is another way to run IE-only pages in FF. And it is kind of a kick to bring up Win Update in a Firefox shell.....

Foxmarks was an 'interesting omission" -- it ws a bit fussy but I have it syncing my Win and Mac FF bookmarks now. (Deli.ic.ious was another.) Of course I find I seldom actually USE saved bookmarks (and/or all that clipped material I thought so important at the moment), but the All bookmarks program you mention has piqued my interest, especially as they say they're adding Opera support, and Opera is cool to use on its own. Still, the Awesome bar in FF3 and Opera's equivalent has made bookmarking even less important to me.....

I'd also like a secure add-on that would allow me to securely sync saved passwords across computers (and across browsers). 1 password seems platform specific (altho they seem to be supporting iPhones now.

PS: Can anyone give me a few cogent reasons to use Safari over Firefox?? I keep trying it and it's like an OK plain vanilla browser without all the cool extensions. What am I missing (except it's only choice for AppleMobile OS's)?? What's the compelling reason? Where's the beef???

The Scrapbook add-on for Firefox does the same thing as DevonThink and Yojimbo for clipping and saving webpages.

Bonus: It's free too.

The function of the middle-click sometimes depends on the mouse.

I use a Microsoft 5 button mouse that specifically requires setting the middle-click to do something other than the default, which in this case a middle-click switches applications.

But once setup it's very efficient for browsing purposes.
