wilco: "The core functionality the iPhone provides has been available in countless mobile devices long before the first iPhone was released. The iPhone outperformed the competition by making an investment in streamlining the user experience."
The iPhone succeeded based on a combination of its brilliant hardware design and the equally brilliant implementation of the three most important pieces of software - the phone application, the web browser, and the iPod software, and to a lesser extent things like Maps, YouTube, Weather, and Camera. If you think it succeeded based on any of its data-entry apps like Contacts or Calendar or even Email, you are mistaken, in my opinion.
