Mophie offers iPhone 3G battery extender

I was kind of hoping they'd move away from the ugly green in the exposed inner case area. It's the battery-charging-logo green, but most people don't pick up on that, and it is ugly. Pre-orders only still, and only in black. I didn't go anywhere without my first iPhone's Mophie, but to hide my sleek white phone in that black rubber case? Yuck. Still, gotta do it for the extra juice, but too bad they don't offer other colors.
I'm not sure I like the switch from iPod connector cable to standard mini-usb. It makes sense on level, but I was hoping Mophie would come up with a way to make the case passthrough data to allow syncing while in the case. Oh well, I'm pre-ordering one anyways.

I have one of these for my 1st gen iPhone and it works great.
It did, however, take much longer to come out than originally stated. They were supposed to be out in December and I think it finally arrived in May.
Will it take that long for the 2nd version? I hope not.
Also, the case peels something fierce. Doesn't look great (I'm on my 2nd one, they replaced the first, and it's starting to do the same thing).
Works really well though, I have to admit.

I'd never heard of that fastmac product before, despite their claim of best of show at MacWorld.
It looks like an interesting product, but that long extension at the end (to fit into the dock) makes it less appealing to me. The bright LED would be useful. Does it pass through data for syncing? If so, that makes it a much more desirable product than the Mophie. If not, then it's a toss up.
I'd really like to see a side-by-side comparison of the Mophie and the IV, especially stats like ho many mah charge they hold...
Too bad these things aren't in stores, where you can hold one before deciding to buy.

I ordered the IV at MacWorld, but canceled my order when I asked them if it was 'Works With iPhone'. They told me that it wasn't, but I didn't have to worry because "it wouldn't affect my warranty". I purchased the Original Juice Pack instead, which is much thinner, certified by Apple and doesn't have the cheap plastic pin connector like the FastMac product. I;m definitely ordering the Juice Pack - I'm not risking anything with my 3G.

If you look on mophie's site @ http://www.mophie.co...hone-3g-details it clearly states that it has USB pass-through to iTunes. Personally, I have a million mini-usb cords laying around and only a couple apple cords.

Actually, it didn't say that when I posted my message; they've updated the website since then it appears.
I'll believe it when I see it, though. I have the current generation mophie, which not only does not pass through sync data, it requires you to turn the jack upside down to charge.
Interesting that this will pass-through sync over USB. Why would they re-engineer the iPod connector and then add a feature the original connector didn't have? Bizarre.
It doesn't matter how many standard mini-USB you have laying around...you've already got the iPhone's original cord. Now you need another cord laying on the desk. I suppose if you're out and about, and don't already have an iPhone car charger or spare cable you might be more likely to bum a USB off someone than an iPhone, but how likely is that scenario? Rhetorical question, don't bother responding.
