Push is not new. That is, there was always a "Push" option, which was the default, for "Fetch New Data". The setting is exactly the same as before.
I've got an original 16 GB iPod Touch and did encounter iPod crashes with the 2.0.0 software that resulted in a reboot on several occasions. It wasn't isolated to a particular application. Moreover, it should have protected memory and not reboot as a result of anything an application does. Other times my iPod would freeze such that I had to force a reboot manually. It was pretty disappointing, though I otherwise really liked 2.0. I just installed the 2.0.1 update and so far so good, but only time will tell if this update addresses the stability issues. I hope it does.
There are other disappointments with 2.0.x, and one is not addressed at all by this update. Why do application installs via the AppStore (on the iPod), even for the tiniest and most trivial of applications, take so astoundingly long? It's completely ridiculous how long installs take. What could be the reason? The device is capable of high quality 3D graphics in a fast-paced racing game, yet it takes 5 minutes to install a coin flipping sim?

There is a way to restore it if your iPhone is stuck at the Apple Logo, without having to take it to the Apple Store.
It is a full restore, so be prepared to take a seat while all the data is moved back onto the phone.
Start up iTunes, and connect the phone. Press and hold both buttons as you would for a reset. Keep holding both buttons through the first reset and wait for it to reset a second time, (about 20 seconds). The phone will then present a restore screen and you can proceed from there....
Hope that helps.

Would be really nice if they put some protective memory into the system. Most of the time when an app crashes, the whole system goes down. At first it brought back some nostalgia for the OS 9 days, but now I just get annoyed. Isn't this suppose to be based on OS X?
It does have protected memory. The iPhone runs a version of MacOS X and is fully protected. You are making the erroneous assumption that the reason the apps are crashing is due to lack of protection. The apps are crashing because there are bugs in the operating system. Hence the update.

While holding the home button, plug in the phone to your computer, this will force a semi-clean install to start. Gotta start over when that happens. Keep holding the home key until a plug icon shows up, then you can let to. This will force the device to start over. Hope that helps.
