Latest update certainly seems to have made a differance with regard to responsiveness of screen. Contacts much smoother, still hesitant but definitely less. As far as calls time will tell.

All I'm reading lately are comments from whiny little girls about the nasty, mean-old iPhone 3G. It is a thin marvel of a hand-held computer with a cellular phone right inside. Imagine that! There may be issues that need to be fixed, especially when people are loading it up with third party stuff. It is not a toaster. I, for one, have never had any issues with syncing to MobileMe or updating the software, firmware, wetware or tableware. I have had intermittent dropped calls, but, again, it's a cellular phone. Quit complaining or carry a laptop and make your phone calls from a payphone.
Peace.

junkurchin you are absolutely right. i shouldn't expect my fancy iphone to be able to make calls. i also should alson not expect my battery to last for more than 3 hours on a charge. i've now seen the light! thank you so much for your input.

and for the record, i was a 1st gen owner and never had this many problems. i have installed 4 apps beyond the standard apple set, have followed all of the instructions, have done hard resets, restored my iphone and so on. as someone that has been an apple supporter since 1991 i tend to know how apple products behave and this phone has been a disappointment.

as for the transition to mobile me....i rely on mobile me to access invoices and schedules from multiple locations and it has been a disaster. since the transition began i have only been able to access my idisk about 70% of the time.

heck, even steve jobs realizes this has been a fiasco...maybe you should step away from the rdf and understand that your experience isn't that of everyone else.

Three hours on a charge?!?!? You've got a bad battery. Get it replaced.

Using the web, mail, music, videos and the phone, I get about a day and a half out of a charge. Leaving it sitting untouched... Well, I've got to admit, I can't keep my hands off the thing for more than a few hours. So, two days is all I've been able to get out of a charge.

I've only noticed momentary hiccups in the MobileMe service during the entire transition from .Mac. It's been fairly seamless for me.

Other than that, YMMV is the one thing to keep in mind with any device. Don't take it personally that somebody else hasn't had the problems that you have had.

Stop complaining. You waited in in line to get your old iPhone, then waited again to get your new iPhone and now you can hold it and show it to all your friends. Shouldn't that be enough? Now you actually expect it to work? It's demanding people like you who make life difficult for new product development. It's an amazing piece of technology- don't you listen to the ads. Just because some of these don't work and most of these don't do EVERYTHING they are advertised to do shouldn't diminish the Apple cache. I bet you can still pay Solitaire on yours. When 2.0.3 comes out and Apple won't tell us what they fixed and our phones still won't work, then at least we can rest assured that 2.1 is on the way. Meanwhile, get one of those cool neck straps to display your new iPhone 3G so everyone knows how cool you are.

Nimbusthegreat,

Touché.

You are right to expect a phone to make calls. But I have never had a cell phone that's been as reliable as a land line. Ever. And I've had a mobile phone since 1990. I think we've all experienced dropped calls with every mobile. I, personally have only had the iPhone drop a few but I'm also in a fairly strong 3G area. It seems to know when to bounce between 3G and Edge.

I guess as someone who hasn't been affected by Apple's 'disaster', I've grown weary of reading about others' troubles with the phone. I suppose I should be a little more empathetic. I guess I just lucked out on the one I got. It sounds like you might want to exchange yours for a new one.

Better yet, use this little guy to just disable backups... the sync'ing is SNAPPY when you turn them off:

You can always re-enable it. Works like a charm.
