SSDs ARE compelling, but not for a full-featured MacBook Pro class of machine.
I need more than 80GB (or even 160GB) of stuff on my MBP. It's my only machine, I take it to different clients' offices and must have all the files I need on it. I also opted for the speed of a 7200 rpm hard drive over capacity, which was a bit of a trade-off. I bought an iPod mainly to clear hard drive space and store i my iTunes library on an external drive at home.
Until SSDs start to reach capacity and price parity with traditional 2.5" hard drives, they'll remain exotic technology... except for deep pocketed people with light computing needs.
Although, I suppose you could use an internal 80GB SSD (for speed) loaded with system and applications only and carry files on a portable 2.5" FireWire 800 drive around, but that defeats some of the purpose and convenience of single-device portability.
Now there are 2.5" 320GB x 7200 rpm and 500GB x 5400 rpm hard drives. I read somewhere recently that 2.5" 10,000 rpm drives will be released late this year or early in 2009. It'll be quite a while before SSDs can get anywhere near that capacity and price points.

I'm waiting for the lawsuit between AMD and Intel over it's upcoming Nahalem and future processors over it's using the internal memory controller that it has a patent on dating back to it's Athlon-64 chips. It's nice to see Intel eating it's words... Again! (Inre: Intel saying that 4GHz was an impossible feat yet, AMD just announced recently that they have broken the 4GHz barrier.)

Talking about WiMax and this IP addressing scheme makes me wonder when the World bodies are going to get together and do something about this problem we have with outrageous phone bills in this new "Web Economy" that we are in. A small internet startup that just happens to get a lot of traffic from a foreign land is going to pay outrageous telco fees to be able to communicate with it's various customers, so much so that it's hard at best to turn a profit and get off the ground especially when coupling that with the costs of shipping their products to those lands as well. Although this has little to do with Intel's announcements, it's still connected in a way since we are talking about networking and telcos here. When I can buy one phone and pay a relatively inexpensive price to call someone no matter where they are, no matter where I am in the world and they can as well, I really don't care about these new technologies and less so about their problems.

And where can I buy this 4Ghz AMD processor? Oh wait, its not for sale. AMD keeps talking, but never delivers like Intel. The days of AMD being able to compete were over the second they dumped all their R&D money to buy ATi.
