So where's the increased memory size for the Touch ?!?!? They keep touting all the Apps, video and music you can download but they don't provide you with more memory. And you all think this is ok?!? Oh, of course they'll come out with more memory, right after Xmas after everyone has just bought the inferior ones !!

A little detail that seems to have slipped by... apparently the new iPod Touch will be compatible with the new Apple headphones with remote and… microphone! If this means VoIP capability for the iPod Touch, which means calls from WiFi Hotspots with no at&t contracts…. ohhhhhhh, one step closer to the death of evil cell phone companies. Please, skype, get your apps on! This, for me living abroad, could be huge. I like to think they didn't want to mention it so as not to annoy at&t, but that's just the optimist in me.

A mea culpa for something I wrote in haste in the original:
"he new iPod nano, introduced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during a press briefing in San Francisco Tuesday, is touted as the thinnest iPod ever built and features a taller form factor with a larger screen than the previous nano."
The screen size is actually the same, though you can view things in both portrait and landscape thanks to the built-in accelerometer, obviously.
I'm fixing this in the next update of the story.

Apple has missed the boat, they should have increased the memory size of the Touch. a measly 32 gigs is a bit undersized and outdated, especially for something as 'high end' as the Touch is 'supposed' to be. And has Apple forgotten about the Mac Mini? Seriously. I can't remember the last time it was updated. I was hoping to buy a new one tomorrow but looks like I'll just get an offbrand sub compact laptop instead. Everything else from their announcement today was good news, but not increasing the size of the Touch is (sadly) a deal breaker. The new iTunes works great though.

I guess the thing that upsets me the most is the same thing that upsets me about nearly all technology: it's too fast to update. I know apple's in the business of making money and they can make little changes like this and people will buy them, but I just got my short n' fat nano in February (the pink one, for valentine's day or something) and at they time stores were still selling loads of discontinued nano equipment for the old one. Why not just make a few good updates every 3 years or so? It seems unfair to the millions of people who have ipods to keep making them shell out 200 bucks every time they change the design a fraction.

No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy anything. That's a call you have to make. Do you buy a new car every year? Most people don't. Same logic applies with computers. Technology stimulates the economy, and that's a good thing for everyone. Most people just sell the old iPod on ebay and apply that money towards the new model. This is why you'd want to save the box. Technology can be a bit frustrating, but it's still a good thing.

YAWN!!! Mucho hype, mucho nada. Stop me if you heard this before. Geez, another iPod iteration. Wow! New colors, more HD space. Great innovation! How original! Don't hurt your creative brain cells. Talk about staying safe. Keep this up and Bill and Jerry will catch up.
Where are the MB and MBP refreshes? I guess MacWorld has to write about something. Can't write about the latest iphone APP and # of Apps sold forever. Wait, I forgot iTunes 8, yippee!!!!

I like that Apple added the Nike+ capability to the Touch, but I would have really liked to have seen it added to the iPhone. Seems like such a natural fit -- have your iTunes, workout tracking, and phone capability while running. I often go on long runs, over an hour or two, and it would be nice to have people still be able to get in touch with me when I'm miles from nowhere.

Because 3 years is a very long time in tech, and competitors keep moving ahead. What you are basically asking, is that once you've bought yours, everybody else must wait until you think they deserve a better model. It means 1 year from now, someone who is just then entering the market for a new iPod must buy 1-year-old technology because you said they shouldn't have access to something current at that time until you were back in the market. Now that seems unfair.
It also means that if Apple has to stop all improvements until certain customers feel their stuff won't be obsoleted so fast, any shopper with the smallest interest in comparison shopping will simply buy a more up-to-date gadget from another company.

I bought an iPod shuffle 2 years ago, and my friend bought an iPod photo back then too. Were we supposed to keep buying iPods after that? We haven't seen the need to get newer ones, but you just said it was mandatory.
The answer to all the issues you raised is the same. You buy the gadget you need, then you freely ignore whatever {name of tech company} puts out until you are ready to buy again. It sure saves me a lot of angst.
