I used to love Apple. I owned a Macintosh TV and have owned a Mac ever since. I was an Apple fanboy vigilante, defending against the evils of Microsoft. Now, since attempting (and succeeding) to buy an iPhone, I sincerely feel that my opinion of Apple has dropped to historic lows. This company is becoming more like Microsoft every day. Over promise, under deliver. I miss the old Apple values.

Safari not crasing is #2 on my list

#!1 is for apps to run.

As it sits the product is unfit for its intended use... we'll see Friday . Big hype today the proof is what counts.

Re : having to Wait (for existing Customers)whereas models shipping today have the new release.

One more thumb of the nose to early buyers (that is sufferers) of the early MobileMe then app crash fiascos. "evangelists" told us all would be well with the Sept 9 release... now it turns out that there was no such intent from Apple - Just publcity with actual relase (at least some say) Friday.

Yep...I agree 100%. I have had a couple updates now that wipe out all data stored within iPhone apps
and I'm sick of it. I am now filtering applications that I purchase by their ability to sync either on my computer or online.
Which means MANY software developers are not getting my dime because Apple refuses to fix this 'bug'.
The apps on the iphone really seem to act just like 'widgets' and not true 'applications' that allow input and storage of data.
But what the hell...at least we have ATT's crappy service to keep our mind off this issue.

With a 3G and 4 bars I have gotten more dropped calls in the last month than I ever did with Verizon for 10 years. The phone is well designed seductive technology. I'm not impressed with AT&T though, sure local coverage will allways vary but look at the big picture, just compare the coverage maps of Verizons Data net and Voice net to AT&T (esp, MT,UT). Without data coverage - no web no GPS, no mail, just a phone. Now it looks like I might have accused AT&T's net for a Apple issue. Hummm...

All that I can say to the person that missed their Treo, is that Treo is a four letter word, we used to use them in the office here and they were nothing but problems. Note they were the Windows based Treos.

So far the iPhone has been pretty good to us, hopefully 2.1 fixes the few issues that we have been having, I wish I could get it now though.

No doubt about that. I am an ex-Treo user and it licks chocolate salty balls. The WORST phone I've ever paid $200 for.
I dance on the grave of that ridiculous piece of crap every day. Awful phone. The iPhone is a delight in comparison to the Treo, but then again so is the Nokia 2590 from 1995.
It took so many days and weeks of frustration to even get the iPhone to begin with and I was told it was 1/2 the price, which it is not - the cost was just rolled into the mandatory monthly charge from ATT. I was told it was twice as fast, which it was not. In fact, to date, 3G rarely even connects and when it does, its only slightly faster than Edge. We'll see what this update adds.

Whoa, Peter Cohen, slow down. First of all, your very first comment to Disabled Trucker was demeaning. Secondly, Trucker Guy is right. Sure, grown ups buy games. But Apple's marketing has seemed pretty juvenile. There are still people that stick with Blackberries b/c the iPhone appears to be marketed like a toy. Anyway, I do hope Friday's download fixes everything. I bought an 8 gig in March, and it worked so very well. That phone rocked the hardcore all the way until I downloaded 2.0. And now just looking at my contacts is a very slow and painful process.

I don't know about iPhone 2.1, but iTunes 8 seems to have dramatically improved my iPhone backup speed all by itself. I've been used to 2 hour plus times for my phone to back up the backup since installing iTunes 8 finished in just over 10 minutes. It's never backed up that quickly.

Yeah, you lucky ducks with the iPod touch get the update right away. It's us poor schlubs with the iPhones that have to wait until Friday.

The 3G is the Swiss Army Knife of smartphones. I live in Switzerland and have had mine for a few weeks. I previously had a Sony-Ericsson 910i. No comparison. Like a Swiss Army Knife, the 3G is well designed, well built, nicely multifunctional, easy to use, and fun. Doubt any other company will catch up soon. BUT - The Swiss Army Knife may partly be so good because there are two competing brands--Victorinox and Wenger. So I actually wish someone else will come close--push Apple a bit to be even better.

Actually the marketing is towards kids otherwise the vast majority of the games wouldn't be produced for 13+! If you think that adults are the majority of people buying the games, who do you think they are buying them for themselves?!?

Yes. I certainly buy games for myself. I'm a 40 something... well paid IT professional that probably has a bit more purchasing power than the average 13 year old. I have kids too and sometimes I even let them play. ;-)

To your point, I don't pretend to know the exact breakdown of kids vs. adult gaming audience. However, I would suggest that the adult gaming audience is significantly higher than you suggest. When it comes to casual gaming that you'd fine on the iPhone and iPod, I'd suggest that percentage is even higher. For example, my wife doesn't play video games on the computer like I do, but she does play casual games like Tetris and Bejeweled on her pda/phone.

>Having been a kid myself a couple decades ago and raised a couple myself, I know exactly what I am talking about.

So, your argument boils down to the following: You're an adult who apparently doesn't play games. Therefore, no other adult plays games. Sorry, I must have missed the memo...

>These so called studies are entirely based off of credit cards that only 18+ can own, not on actual sales figures, nor on actual polls taken to find out who the game was purchased for!

Really, that's interesting. Would you mind sharing the source of your information. I'm interested in learning more about this phenomena.
